We have an announcement about North Cobb Lions Club membership meetings. As of October 2023, our meetings will be held at the Acworth Community Center at 6PM. This is on the first MONDAY of the month. The Board thought it would be a good change and have more visibility in the North Cobb area. There will not be a meal at these meetings, as we have reserved a classroom. Just check at the front desk and they will direct you to the classroom. We have this room reserved for October, November and December. Please join us! We will be sorting eyeglasses at the October meeting, which will last from 6PM-8PM. Future meetings will be from 6PM-7PM. Stay tuned!

What a great morning to watch visually-impaired kiddos have their own Egg Hunt! The Cobb County Police Bomb Squad put together this annual event. The bad weather caused it to be inside, but still a wonderful experience! Thank you for letting our Club observe the egg hunt, learn more about the beeping eggs, and meet some great people in all aspects of the VI “world”! We’re looking forward to helping get the word out for the next hunt! And who knew that there are actually brailled Hot Wheels Cars! We understood that it took a LONG time to find these!

At our January meeting on 1/3/23, Grayson Carvel, a Paulding County middle school student who excels at Lacrosse, presented his program to our Club.

Here is information about the program that Grayson started:
The "Giving With LAX" mission is to raise awareness for youth and students who typically would not be able to play a traditional sport due to a physical or mental disability or other challenges. This is done by playing in honor of that person, profiling the student’s daily life, hobbies, achievements, and challenges related to what makes them unique in weekly social media posts. They also try to bring awareness of ways the community can help or donate to people in similar positions.
Each week a new person is featured on their social media accounts and be that week’s honorary player. Grayson wears this person’s initials on his helmet to honor and recognize them. This will symbolize the person on the field and being part of the team. This person and their family will be invited to come and watch a practice and/or game if they would like to participate. Their hope is to have others share what they are doing to help in raising awareness for those in the community. Just as important, learn how they can be involved in such an amazing initiative.
This seems like a "win-win" program, in that it honors the student with the disability while giving the team a little extra motivation to perform well in the competition. They can see this blossoming into something big in the future. Please support this great cause by visiting https://givingwithlax.org/our-mission and purchasing merchandise and sharing their website and other social media outlets. They are also on Facebook.
Thank you Grayson for sharing your creative way of offering inclusion within the community!
