When I’m not campaigning for State Senate, I serve as the Indigent Legal Services (ILS) Data Officer for Orange County.
The ILS Data Officer position was created as part of New York State’s implementation of the landmark Hurrell-Harring settlement, which transformed the way public defense services are funded, measured, and delivered across New York.
This past year, I had the honor of presenting at all four New York State Indigent Legal Services Regional Data Convenings held across the state, sharing Orange County’s work with public defense professionals, data analysts, attorneys, and administrators.
These convenings brought together professionals from every corner of New York who are responsible for collecting, reporting, and interpreting indigent defense data to ensure accountability, transparency, and effective use of taxpayer resources.
It was especially meaningful to stand before colleagues from across the state and represent Orange County’s work in this important field. Public service isn’t just something I talk about during campaign season. It’s what I do every day.
