The Accomack County Sheriff's Office asks our community to join us in supporting Officers Jacob Clark and Jacob Wells as they recover from the serious injuries they sustained in the line of duty.

These officers have connections to one of our own, making this tragedy especially close to our ACSO family. While serving and protecting their community, both officers were critically injured and now face a long road to recovery. Their families are standing beside them every step of the way.

If you are able, please consider donating to the verified GoFundMe established to assist with medical expenses, rehabilitation, and the many challenges that come with an unexpected injury. If you cannot donate, sharing this fundraiser and keeping these officers, their families, and their fellow first responders in your thoughts and prayers is equally appreciated.

The law enforcement community is a family, and when one of us hurts, we all feel it. Thank you for helping us support these officers during this difficult time.

Graduation season is a time to celebrate hard work, dedication, and the accomplishments that have brought our students to this important milestone.

As you gather with friends and family to mark the occasion, the Accomack County Sheriff's Office encourages everyone to celebrate responsibly. A single poor decision involving underage drinking, drug use, reckless driving, or other illegal activity can have lasting consequences and impact the bright future that lies ahead.

Make smart choices, look out for one another, and help ensure that your graduation memories are positive ones that you'll be proud to reflect on for years to come.

Congratulations to all of Accomack County's graduates. We are proud of your achievements and wish you success, happiness, and safety as you begin the next chapter of your journey.

Yesterday, Sergeant Reese and Corporal Campbell participated in NASA's "Safety on the Green" event at Wallops Island, where NASA employees, military service members, and interns had the opportunity to experience firsthand how alcohol can impair a person's ability to safely operate a vehicle.

Participants navigated a pedal cart course while wearing impairment simulation goggles designed to mimic various levels of alcohol intoxication. Before beginning the course, volunteers received instructions and then attempted to complete driving-related tasks while experiencing simulated impairment. Participants also performed Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs) while wearing the goggles, providing an eye-opening demonstration of the effects alcohol can have on balance, coordination, judgment, and divided attention skills.

Divided attention is the ability to focus on multiple tasks at the same time, a critical skill required for safe driving. Alcohol can significantly impair a person's ability to process information, follow directions, make decisions, and perform physical and mental tasks simultaneously. These effects often become apparent during Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and can greatly increase the risk of crashes and injuries.

We would like to thank NASA for inviting us to participate in this important safety event, and we appreciate everyone who volunteered and took part in the activities. Events like these help educate participants about the dangers of impaired driving and reinforce the importance of making safe and responsible decisions.

๐Ÿšจ SCAM OF THE WEEK: FAKE FEDERAL JURY DUTY WARRANT SCAM ๐Ÿšจ

The Accomack County Sheriff's Office wants to warn residents about a scam that recently targeted a local citizen.

Scammers are calling people and pretending to be law enforcement officers or federal officials. They may claim you missed federal jury duty, failed to appear in court, or have an active warrant for your arrest.

To make the scam sound believable, they may:

๐Ÿ“Œ Send fake court documents, warrants, or government paperwork
๐Ÿ“Œ Use realistic sounding background radio traffic or scanner audio
๐Ÿ“Œ Transfer you to a "Captain" or another fake official
๐Ÿ“Œ Tell you not to hang up the phone
๐Ÿ“Œ Tell you not to speak with anyone else
๐Ÿ“Œ Claim you cannot go to government buildings or you will be arrested
๐Ÿ“Œ Demand immediate payment through Walmart, gift cards, money transfers, or other methods
๐Ÿ“Œ Promise your money will be returned after you "verify" information

โš ๏ธ Remember:

The Sheriff's Office, local police departments, state agencies, or federal courts will never call you demanding money to avoid arrest.

Real law enforcement agencies will not:

โŒ Demand payment over the phone
โŒ Tell you to stay on the line for hours
โŒ Tell you to keep the conversation secret
โŒ Send you to Walmart to make payments
โŒ Threaten immediate arrest if you hang up

If you receive a call like this:

โœ… Hang up immediately
โœ… Do not send money
โœ… Do not provide personal information
โœ… Contact your local law enforcement agency directly using a known phone number

Please share this post to help protect family, friends, and neighbors from becoming victims.

A special thank you to the Onley Police Department for stopping this scam, protecting the victim, and sharing this information so we can help educate and protect our community.
