Today, we honor and remember the 2,977 innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, and civilians who made the ultimate sacrifice. We will never forget their courage, their sacrifice, or the brotherhood and selflessness displayed that day.

This past Wednesday, 4 members of GFC participated in The Great American Relay, which is a 7-day tribute run to honor the heroes of 9/11 and supports our veterans. The run starts at the Flight 93 Memorial, makes its way to the Pentagon, and then finishes at the World Trade Center. The 4 members of GFC, along with 7 amazing members of our community, ran the baton 5.2 miles from Glenside Fire Company to Fort Washington Fire Company in honor of those who lost their lives 25 years ago.

You Don’t Have to Fight Fires to Help Glenside Fire Company

Glenside Fire Company is looking for community-minded individuals interested in serving on our Board of Directors and helping guide the future of the company.

Running a volunteer fire company takes much more than responding to emergencies. We need people who can contribute professional experience, practical skills and fresh ideas in areas such as:

• Finance and accounting
• Fundraising and grant writing
• Marketing and social media
• Information technology
• Building and facilities management
• Human resources and recruitment
• Event planning
• Legal, insurance or business administration
• Community outreach

Firefighting experience is not required. If you have skills that could help strengthen our organization—and want to make a meaningful difference in your community—we want to hear from you.

Interested in learning more? Send us a message or contact Glenside Fire Company today.

At our crew meeting this past Monday night, GFC Junior Firefighter Amanda McCann was awarded her GFC license plate to signify her successful completion of Bucks County’s Firefighter I program earlier in August. Amanda worked tirelessly throughout the summer to finish the 220+ hour course that is required to become an interior firefighter. Congrats Amanda!

Congratulations to Glenside Fire Company member Sarah Devereaux who recently was sworn in to the Pennsylvania Air National Guard. This new opportunity will allow Sarah to not only serve her community but serve our nation while fulfilling a lifelong dream of military service.
Sarah, a mother of three, whose son also joined GFC, has been a volunteer firefighter with us for four years. She is the fourth member of Glenside who is actively serving in the military.

This weeks training focused on forcible entry. Members practiced using different tools and methods to improve their skills. Both power tools and simple hand tools play a part in our ability to gain access to buildings.

We all know by now that it is going to be a VERY hot 4th of July, but we hope to see you along the parade route of at least one of the parades we will be attending. Please remember to hydrate throughout the day, and we hope the weather holds for one of the oldest parades in the country, the one and only Glenside 4th of July parade!
