SPECIAL ELECTION CALLED TO FILL SEAT ON WASHINGTON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
Candidate Filing Deadline is August 14, 2026

(ABINGDON, VA) –The Washington County Circuit Court has scheduled a special election to fill the vacancy on the Washington County Board of Supervisors in District D (Monroe District) created by the passing of C. Wayne Stevens, Jr. The special election will be held on November 3, 2026, coinciding with the general election. The Monroe District includes the Glade Spring and Meadowview precincts of Washington County.

Candidates must be qualified registered voters who reside in the local election district. The winner of the special election will take office upon certification of the results of the election and will complete the current unexpired term which ends on December 31, 2027.

Interested candidates must file all candidate qualification documents with the General Registrar of Washington County no later than 5:00 pm on August 14, 2026. The paperwork may be picked up at the Office of the General Registrar, located on the second floor of the Washington County Government Center Building.
