Democrat state Rep. Gina Hinojosa stopped at a Dallas park Thursday, Sept. 3, to lay out her plan to fix Texas public schools if elected to the governorship on Nov. 3.

With public school advocates of varying political leanings standing in support of her, Hinojosa said she will fire Texas Education Agency Commissioner Mike Morath on Day One and bring Texas public schools back to the basics of learning.

These school districts had a school fail state academic A-F ratings for a fourth consecutive year in 2026.

📚🎬 Books to Blockbusters kicks off tomorrow!

Young readers, ages 6-12, can join us on Tuesday afternoons as we read our way through E.B. White's "Stuart Little," before watching the movie adaptation on the final week. Sessions will feature readings of the book, activities, and more as a way to expand reading opportunities for older kids.

I’ve thought of all the teachers who made me a better person. I’ve watched my friends and colleagues be that type person to students.

But not the Federal Department of Education. Like a bully they mocked the job we do. Trivializing Educators into comical cartoon teachers. ED didn’t pick inspiring educators. They picked those who are jokes.

I just don’t get it. I don’t get how in the last 30 years being a teacher has become a career that isn’t to be respected. I know my teachers went above and beyond. I know my fellow educators still do the same. Let’s respect education again." -Elaine Tilley
