Fort Phantom Hill Lake Zebra Mussel Status Elevated to ‘Infested’

Following the detection of zebra mussel veligers (larvae stage mussels) for the second consecutive year and the discovery of adult mussels of a variety of sizes/ages, we have decided to elevate the Fort Phantom Hill Lake zebra mussel status to infested.

Zebra mussels damage boat motors and hulls, harm native species, including popular sport fish, and litter shorelines with their sharp shells. Zebra mussels can also disrupt municipal water supply systems and hydroelectric facility infrastructure by attaching to the insides of pipes and restricting water flow.

One of the primary ways that zebra mussels get introduced to new waterbodies is by hitchhiking on boats. We need everyone to do their part in slowing the spread by remembering to clean, drain, and dry their boat every time they get off the water.

The Largemouth Bass population in Lake Daniel is looking great! Our team spent the day sampling the lake via electrofishing and the results were incredible!

There were many bass between 4-7 pounds sampled (a few of the best pictured). We also sampled many legal size White Bass and White Crappie!

Boat access to the lake is severely limited as water levels remain very low. If you choose to launch a boat please use extreme caution.
