Want to volunteer or give? In the Food Bank’s 13-county service area, approximately 55,000 people live in poverty, miss meals, or experience extreme hunger. The Food Bank of West Central Texas's mission is to help feed low-income, working families; impoverished senior citizens; and thousands of food-insecure children who often go to bed hungry each night. With our Food Assistance Program and the h

elp of our partnering community agencies, mobile pantries, and pop-up pantries. We are able to move perishable and non-perishable food items quickly to families and individuals throughout the West Central Texas area. Backpacks for Kids program we provide, child-friendly, nutritious foods for chronically hungry children over the weekend at no cost to the child or the family. We work through our local school system, often in conjunction with concerned citizens, churches & civic groups to provide financial and volunteer support to make Backpacks for Kids a successful endeavor. Our Senior pantry provides seniors with assistance to additional pantry items to keep their pantries full.

Others show up every week, year in and year out.

Every Wednesday, Kenny Gillett walks through our doors ready to help. Whether he's crushing boxes, supporting our team, or simply bringing a smile to everyone around him, Kenny embodies what it means to serve others with compassion and consistency.

His passion for our mission, his dedication to our neighbors, and his joyful spirit have become a part of who we are as an organization.

Last night at Food Bank Night with the Abilene Flying Bison, we were honored to recognize Kenny as the 2026 Food Bank of West Central Texas Volunteer of the Year.

Kenny, thank you for the thousands of hours you've given, the countless lives you've touched, and the example you've set for all of us.

It's a really exciting day for the Flying Bison organization.

Today we host our first food drive for our great friends at the Food Bank of West Central Texas to help support their mission of fighting hunger in West Central Texas.

⚾ For every bag of food donated at the the 6/17 food drive, you'll receive a GA ticket that can be used today or some time this season.
⚾ It's also BBQ SPATULA GIVEAWAY NIGHT! A brand new giveaway for this season that we think y'all will really like.
⚾ The Food Bank of West Central Texas is also doing a giveaway that's a great companion to the spatula 👀 You'll have to stop by their table to find out what it is!
⚾ 10% of sales at Bomber's Dugout Shop will be matched and donated by the Flying Bison.
⚾ The Food Bank will have ways to make a monetary donation if you don't want to bring a food donation.
⚾ Around 6:45pm, the Food Bank has a very special announcement (on the field) that we hope our fans will join us in celebrating.

Food assistance opportunities continue this week in Abilene.

We'll be hosting our monthly drive-thru pantry on Monday evening and serving at Rose Park Senior Center (55+ only, please) on Wednesday morning.
