Notice of Changes to the Kansas Offender Registration Act

The Kansas legislature has enacted a new statewide offender registration fee requiring an additional $10 technology fee.

Effective July 1, 2026, anyone required to register will be required to remit a $10 technology fee in addition to the $20 registration fee. Failure to remit full payment at the time of registration is a class A misdemeanor. If the full $30 payment is not received within twenty days, the matter will be submitted for prosecution. Continued non-payment can result in felony charges.

The bill passed by the Kansas Legislature reflecting these changes can be found at:

Requiring the Kansas bureau of investigation to implement a statewide offender registration system for agencies who register offenders under the offender registration act, providing for a petition to determine that an offender is indigent and authorizing a notice to appear to be issued for a violati...

On Saturday, June 6, 2026, the Dickinson County Sheriff's Office in cooperation with Dickinson County law enforcement agencies hosted the 3rd annual Cops N' Bobbers event at Father Padilla Park in Herington.

Fifty area youth and their families attended the event which included lunch sponsored by Chick-Fil-A of Salina and Country Mart of Abilene. Each youth received a fishing pole, tackle, baits and a swag bag thanks to discounts and donations from Zeiner's Angler Supply, Deadly Addictive Baits, and Mr. Reasonables.

Although fishing was a bit slow this year, every participant received a prize thanks to monetary and prize donations from H&H Spray Foam Insulation and Concrete Lifting, American Family Insurance-Ryan Opat, and CJ's Lawn Service LLC. One lucky participant even received a lifetime fishing license sponsored by Vyve Broadband.

Events like these are made possible from generous donations from community members and businesses. Donations to the DKSO Community Involvement Fund can be mailed or dropped off at the Dickinson County Sheriff's Office.

A big thank you to all of the donors and sponsors that made this year's event a huge success!

It has been a big week for Dickinson County at the 11th Annual L.E.A.D. 21st Century Drugs and Violence Training Conference in Atlantic City, New Jersey! Deputy Depew, along with six other officers from around the nation, who were selected to pilot a Community Prevention Officer’s program, presented their community projects they are working on to conference attendees. Drawing on his experience with the Dickinson County Recovery Court, Deputy Depew is working on a project to reduce recidivism in Dickinson County. This project will be unveiled in early October at the Faith and Blue event.

Our Sheriff's Office recently had the opportunity to send a challenge coin to a brave young boy who is currently battling an illness and collecting challenge coins from agencies across the country.
While we haven't had the chance to meet him in person, we are honored to be a small part of his journey. His courage and resilience serve as a reminder of the strength that can be found even in life's toughest battles.
Please join us in wishing him and his family all the best. We are honored to share in Jude's coin journey! 💙🖤💙

What started with just a few challenge coins became something much bigger. But this isn't a story about collecting coins-it's a story about friendship, enco...
