There was a lot going on at this past week’s County Council meeting.
For such a short meeting, a lot happened.
Councilwoman Robert introduced a bill that creates a Commission on Homelessness.
Councilman Bennett introduced a bill to require large industrial buildings to have solar panels on their rooftops.
Councilman Penman has introduced a charter amendment to codify the ability of public school staff and sheriff’s deputies to serve on the council— clearing up the confusion in the existing verbiage and enshrining into the charter what the courts have established with the Bennet and subsequent Penman cases.
Councilman Giangordano tried and failed to do what Councilwoman Robert did to him months ago, and stop the bill upon introduction. He was three votes short.
The current council might have its time coming to a close, but it’s good to see them trying to get as much done with their remaining time as they can. The last few weeks have seen some pretty good legislation introduced.
The same folks complaining about a lame duck council passing legislation would be the same ones complaining if they were sitting around and collecting a check.
