On September 14, 2026, at approximately 10:30 a.m., officers with the Aberdeen Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 10 block of 13th Avenue NW for a report of an injured male lying on the sidewalk.

Officers learned the male had reportedly fallen from a window on the top floor of the residence. The male was transported by Aberdeen Fire & Rescue to Avera for treatment of his injuries.

The homeowners were not home at the time of the incident and did not know the male. Officers determined the male had entered the residence without permission. A significant amount of damage was also found inside the residence.

"They knew that they might not come home, but they knew there were people trapped. That's our job." - Sal Cassano, former Fire Commissioner of FDNY.

Today, we remember and honor the almost 3,000 lives lost 25 years ago during the September 11th attacks. Included in that number are the 441 first responders who died that day while rescuing the 17,400 people in the World Trade Center. Their bravery and sacrifices will never be forgotten.
