What an incredible year for the Aberdeen Gem Trail! As 2025 comes to a close, we want to share some highlights of the progress and improvements we've made together.

2025 Gem Trail Highlights:

Mural Painting: We're thrilled with the beautiful new mural painting under the highway bridge! This senior art project by Kyren Cardona and Rene Zamora has added so much color and life to the trail.

Educational Signs: Our new bird and wildlife educational signs were installed back in June! These additions will help everyone learn more about the nature surrounding the trail. Many thanks to all the high school students that helped with their installation.

Mary Leisy Memorial Marker: Also installed in June was a beautiful memorial stone in honor of one of our founding members, Mary Leisy.

Aberdeen Days Dash: Also in June, we celebrated our 21st running of the Aberdeen Days Dash. We had a record 43 runners show up!

Trail Maintenance: The trail is looking great thanks to multiple tree trimming activities. We've made great strides in managing overhanging branches and helping clear the waterway.

A huge THANK YOU to all of our incredible volunteers, especially the high school seniors! Your hard work made a real difference with trail cleanup activities, including assisting with other projects for Tiger Pride Day.

Looking Ahead: The Future of the Gem Trail
As we prepare our grant proposal for the Idaho Parks and Recreation Department in 2027, we'll be seeking community input on future trail improvements and new trail installation. Your feedback is vital as we plan the next great section of the Aberdeen Gem Trail! Stay tuned for more details on how you can share your ideas in the new year.

The Gem Trail Board was made aware this past weekend that the Mary Leisy memorial rock had been vandalized. We are aware of who did this and are working on a solution.

Thanks to everyone who has expressed their concern.

A lot of tree trimming the past couple of weeks. Needing to clean out the Hazard Creek to help with spring runoff.

We started with a day spent cutting larger trees and leaving the big stuff for today. Many thanks to the high school students who helped drag branches out:

Annie Ledesma
Marlen Gamez
Michelle Palacios
Emily Shackleford
Karly Brown
Marley Kendall

And a huge thank you to Brian Schneider, Steve Love, and Tom Salaiz for the chain saw work, and Brad Shackleford for the telescoping forklift work!

Another busy day clearing tree branches, and installing the Mary Leisy memorial rock. We also installed a post to replace the “No Motorized Vehicles” sign by Powerline Rd., but it seems to have been removed from the 4 x 4 post. If anyone knows it whereabouts, please send us a message.

Many thanks to everyone who showed up today including the high schoolers who helped mix cement, trim and drag branches off the trail, and clean the wildlife signs. 😁

Two more tree cleanup days are planned - September 5th and October 17/18. Let us know if you’d like to help. 🙂

Many Thanks to Brian Schneider, Chayo Carrillo, and Tom Salaiz for mowing the weeds and clearing off the dust and clippings from the trail the past few weeks.

Also a huge thank you to Monty Ledford for hauling off trash and plastic containers along the Hazard creek section.

Thank you all for your patience as we work to control the weeds - we are figuring out a better plan for next year.

In the next few weeks we will be installing a memorial marker for Mary Leisy, founding member of the Aberdeen Gem Trail, and we will be clearing some trees along the trail and in the creek to help with drainage.

Just one month after installation, one of our beautiful educational signs has been vandalized. We are saddened that this has happened, but we are determined to repair and prevent future vandalism.

It is our hope that with continued persistence and repair, just as the hard work that went into removing previous graffiti, that the perpetrators will be caught and learn a lesson of what it means to be part of community.

Also - please be patient with us as we work to mow the weeds along the trail this weekend. We will do better at keeping the trail looking good all year long.

Thanks to everyone who uses and supports the trail.
