Day 1 of hand drum stick making and singing lessons complete. Was good to see our younger ones creating, picking their colors out. The teen girls and boys got some song history in, protocols were talked about. It was a good day. Tomororw at noon we finish up.

On Friday, we hosted the SD Indian Education Summit here in Aberdeen. Many great speakers, lots of stories shared, knowledge passed on and new connections made. Our CHS drum group gave us a few songs before lunch. It was a good day.

Hau Mitakuyapi, On Thursday in conjunction the SD Indian Education Dept. we hosted Donald Montileaux, world renowned artist, author and storyteller, We traveled to all 6 elementaries with his book Muskrat and Skunk, a Lakota Drum Story. Each Kindergarten and 1st grade student received a copy of the book. Sitting with the littles always revitalizing, It was a Good Day.

Building a drum group from scratch was no easy task, on tuesday we assisted the Veterans Day ceremony with a good ol Flag Song. Super proud of our students who committed themselves to practices each week. They're eager and love to learn. It was a good day. 🔥💪🏽

Our NASA Crew would like to invite all our Indian Ed families our for a movie night. Wednesday, October 22nd at Central High School. Doors open at 5:30, Movie starts at 6pm. Free Popcorn and movie Snacks for all. Any questions can be messaged here, or call us at 725-8116.

Yesterday, our NASA crew met with Chef Kimberly Tilsen-Brave Heart at NSU. They listened to her story, where she came from and how her passion for feeding the people has launched her into the stages of TV, owning her own restaurant and developing ways for our people to create their own businesses. The students were talking about how they want to open their own business someday. It was a good day. Wopila Tanka to our NSU people for inviting us.

Introducing our 2025-26 CHS Native American Student Association (NASA) Officers. Each year, we have all candidates speak to their peers, they share a little about themselves, where their families are from, they're interests and goals. They play a vital role in our Indian Ed programming. If you see them around Aberdeen, please shake their hands, they've earned their fellow students trust to lead them through the year.

Bring your family down, play some games, get to know our program. With the 2025-26, school year approaching we will have 2 kick off events to welcome our indian ed families back. We have adjusted our JOM shoe/school supplies budget for the 2025-26 school year. Reminder JOM is open to all lineal descendants and tribally enrolled students. Please visit our website for detailed information and sign up forms. 2025 CHS Commencement held 20 Indian Education graduates. Throughout the past 4 years, These students have grown so much, remembering them as new freshmen, watching them today walk across the stage as graduates was absolutely amazing. Our Indian Ed Department and Parent Advisory Committee thank you all for supporting each graduate through their education. It was a Good Day.

Thank You to everyone who came out for our Winter Gathering, It's always great to see our families together, laughing, sharing and listening to one another. Our Title VI Public Hearing portion was very informative, we had tables to show the past 20 years through photos, Frybread Contest consisted of 7 participants, results are below. The movie Big Crow was a great way to end the evening. As always, take care of one another out there.
