On Saturday, June 6th, the Aberdeen Police Department will participate in a statewide "Move Over Law" Enforcement Campaign, dedicated to honoring Trooper Marc K. Castellano.
Remembering Trooper Castellano:
On June 6, 2010, Trooper Castellano was walking along the shoulder of Interstate 195 West near Exit 31 in Howell Township, searching for an armed suspect. Tragically, he was struck by a passing motorist and later passed away at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. His sacrifice reminds us of the importance of road safety for everyone.
What is the Move Over Law?
Enforced under New Jersey Statute 39:4-92.2, when you see a vehicle with flashing lights on the side of the road—whether it’s a police car, fire truck, tow truck, or emergency vehicle—you are required to move over to the next lane if it is safe to do so. If you can’t change lanes, please slow down and be extra cautious
Why This Campaign Matters:
The "Goal Zero" initiative aims to confront the alarming rise in traffic fatalities across New Jersey. Changing driving behaviors and fostering a culture of traffic safety are vital to saving lives on our roads. Law enforcement is committed to reducing these numbers and making our roadways safer for all.
What Does the Goal Zero Logo Mean?
- The color signifies high visibility, representing pedestrian and school safety.
- The black mourning band honors all lives lost in traffic crashes.
Let's honor Trooper Castellano's memory by committing to safe driving and moving over when required. Again, MOVE OVER for emergency vehicles on the side of the road! If you are unable to move over, SLOW DOWN and stay alert!
Together, we can work toward zero traffic fatalities.
