I just want everyone to know that the city of Abbeville Police Department has been busy apprehending criminals that were trying to get contraband into the prison. Great job Chief Bruce Carmichael and his officers!!!!!! All this was just over a week ago and over several days.
A.P.D.
In the early morning hours of July 21, and 22, a joint effort between Abbeville Police Department, Georgia Department of Corrections K-9 Officers and the Wilcox State Prison, yielded the interception of approximately forty (40) bundles of contraband, that were intended to be delivered to inmates at Wilcox State Prison. During the course of this investigation, Officers had to chase multiple subjects on foot around the Abbeville area, in their attempt to flee from apprehension. Subsequently, four (4) subjects were arrested in a two night time frame. All those arrested were from the Atlanta area. Both cases will be handled by Abbeville P.D. Investigator, due to the fact that no contraband actually made it across guard lines and onto State Property (Wilcox Prison). Seized at the time of arrest of these subjects was a total of approximately 12,000 grams of To***co, approximately 800 grams of Ma*****na, and over 50 Cell Phones, chargers, and other miscellaneous items prohibited to be possessed by Inmates at Wilcox State Prison. Seizures of this magnitude, prevents large sums of money from reaching the intended hands of gang members and others on the inside of the Prison that distribute prohibited contraband. By intercepting a large number of cell phones and charges, as the case was here, It also hinders their ability to communicate amongst themselves inside and to make contact with those on the outside that are involved. This is an ongoing problem, with no end, However, Abbeville Police Department is committed daily to continue to monitor this activity, and arrest those responsible, that come into our community, with the sole intention of committing criminal acts.
