⚾ Continued Improvements at the Claude Simmons–Dixie Youth Complex!

The complex sign has been refurbished, adding another fresh touch to this important recreation facility.

This work follows several other recent improvements, including:

🎨 Refurbishment of the wall mural
🔨 Installation of new fencing
🏟️ Replacement of the facility awning

Individually, these projects may seem like small details—but together they protect the City’s investment, improve the appearance and function of the complex, and provide a better environment for youth athletics.

The City has two major street projects set to move forward in the coming months:

🔹 Perry, New and Conway Streets

From routine repairs to complete repaving projects, the City works every day to reinvest in and maintain the transportation infrastructure our residents depend on.

✨ From an underused property to a vibrant new public space—Harry’s Plaza represents the progress taking place throughout Abbeville!

Earlier this month, residents and visitors gathered to celebrate its grand opening during the Labor Day Car Show. It was an exciting first glimpse of how this investment can support events, bring people Downtown and create new opportunities for surrounding businesses.

Last week, multiple City departments worked together to repair a sinkhole on East Pinckney Street. Through quick communication and a coordinated response, the issue was resolved within hours.

Situations like this demonstrate the value of interdepartmental cooperation. By bringing together the right personnel and equipment, the City can address safety concerns efficiently, minimize disruptions and keep our streets moving.

Four deserving individuals will soon be inducted into the City of Abbeville Recreation Wall of Fame!

Established by City Council, the Wall of Fame honors those who have made a lasting impact on recreation and athletics in Abbeville.

🏘️ Building Grant Packages—and a Stronger Abbeville!

Putting together a competitive grant application takes a great deal of work behind the scenes. The City is currently partnering with the Upper Savannah Council of Governments to apply for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to demolish dilapidated properties throughout Abbeville.

If awarded, these funds will help remove blighted and unsafe structures, strengthen our neighborhoods and prepare properties for future private investment.

Combined with the City’s continued investments in parks, infrastructure and other quality-of-life improvements, this project represents another step toward implementing Abbeville’s 2023 Comprehensive Plan and making our community an even more attractive place to call home! 🏡
