There has been a lot of buzz about the storms that came through on Sunday morning. Some people complained about the sirens not going off or not receiving a CodeRed message.

Sirens are set off upon notification of an impending storm and based on the severity of the storm. The notification comes from the county EMA office and/or from the Tallahassee weather station for our region. The city did not receive a notice of the warning.

The CodeRed system is also monitored and managed by the County EMA/E911 by information received from Tallahassee. These storms were very fast moving, unpredictable and were not forecast in advance of being of possible concerns. You would only receive A CodeRed if you were in the path of the storm as predicted by the weather station.

The CodeRed system is a much more reliable system and we encourage everyone to register. You can register your home phone, business, cell or email. You simply provide two contacts and your address. You can register for FREE by going to www.cityofabbeville.org and scroll down to the CodeRed logo (https://public.coderedweb.com/CNE/122858D49DC5) . Click on it and enter the data requested.

No system is perfect. Both systems have the downside but eh CodeRed is the most effective system we have today. The sirens are not dependable and only work if you happen to be near enough to one to hear it. CodeRed can come to you wherever you are if you enter an email or cell phone number.

Click here for online payment of Abbeville utility bills by e-check, debit or credit cards. There is currently no charge for this service. Click on the CodeRed image above to sign up for free Weather Notifications. Sign In
