Koboko Municipal Council Technical team engages the technical and political leadership of Dranya Sub County to discuss Urban Expansion Planning aimed at extending development planning beyond the current boundaries of Koboko Municipality to support sustainable and coordinated growth.

The planning initiative is funded by the European Union through Cities Alliance/UNOPS under the Sustainable Urban Integration of the Displacement Affected Communities (SUIDAC) Project.

The Urban Expansion Planning seeks to extend the development planning framework to Dranya, Midia and Lobule Sub Counties, recognizing that the future growth of Koboko requires coordinated planning beyond the existing municipal boundaries where social services are accessible.

The team will proceed to Midia and Lobule Sub Counties next week for the same engagement.

Koboko Municipal Council together with Development Partners working in Koboko Municipality have joined refugees and host communities to celebrate the belated World Refugee Day under the theme “Until Everyone Is Safe.”

World Refugee Day is observed every year on 20 June to honour the strength, courage and resilience of people who have been forced to flee their homes because of conflict, persecution or violence.

The day also provides an opportunity to raise awareness about the challenges faced by refugees and to promote solidarity, inclusion, dignity and peaceful coexistence between refugees and host communities.

The celebration in Koboko highlighted the important contribution of refugees to the social and economic development of the Municipality.

Because of Ebola situation in Uganda, the day could not be celebrated on 20th June as planned. The celebration is Supported by Cities Alliance/UNOPS Funded by the European Union with ACAV under the Sustainable Urban Integration of the Displacement Affected Communities (SUIDAC).

Happening Now: Koboko Municipal Council conducting council sitting to deliberate on key matters concerning the development and effective service delivery in Koboko Municipality.

The sitting also provids an opportunity for council members to review progress on ongoing activities and provide guidance on priority interventions.

The council reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the technical team, communities and other stakeholders to promote accountable, inclusive and sustainable development in Koboko Municipality.

SUIDAC Project: Koboko Municipal Council engages the District Councillors and stakeholders in Urban Expansion Planning. This is to seek the stakeholders input to plan for the boarder of Koboko Municipal Council beyond the Administrative Unit to ensure there is connectivity between Koboko Municipal Council and Koboko District. Under the Sustainable Urban Integration of the Displacement Affected Communities (SUIDAC Project), Koboko Municipal Council has received about 140 Million from Cities Alliance Funded by European Union for the Urban Expansion Planning.

The Mayor of Koboko Municipal Council, Hon. Atibuni Peter Aloro, has called upon members of the Municipal Development Forum (MDF) to serve as the eyes and ears of the community by actively identifying local challenges, engaging citizens, and providing timely feedback to the Municipal Council.

The Mayor made the remarks during a community engagement meeting organized by the Community Based Services Department, bringing together key stakeholders to strengthen community participation in local governance and development. Koboko Municipal Council conducting a review meeting with Community Para Social Workers and key stakeholders to assess the progress made following a capacity-building training conducted in April 2026 supported by the European Union through Cities Alliance.

Koboko Municipal Council has commenced the implementation of the trade order aimed at restoring order, improving accessibility and creating a more conducive environment for businesses and residents in the Municipal.

According to Mr Ogweng Patrick the Town Clerk of Koboko Municipal Council, the trade order for now targets encroachment on road reserves, illegal structures on the balconies (varindors), kisoks and corridors between the buildings to ensure order and accessibility with the town.

The trade order is a nationwide activity that started in City Councils and has now moved to the Municipal Councils.

The initiative comes in a response to the growing concern of encroachment on road reserves, blocking of pedestrian corridors and establishment of unregulated and illegal kisoks structures in the town centres making them inaccessible.
