Action for Humanitarian Initiatives-Uganda (AFHI-Uganda) is a legally registered Non -Governmental Organisation with Reg No: 11638 by the NGO Board under Ministry of Internal Affairs. AFHI was established to serve and support youth and other vulnerable groups of women, orphans and other vulnerable children in Uganda. These categories are considered vulnerable because of their state of being or
likely to be in a risky situation of suffering significant physical, emotional or mental harm that may result in their human rights not being fulfilled. AFHI-Uganda strives to help these groups improve their own health statuses, socio-economic livelihoods, and promotion of their rights – both human and civil. AFHI-Uganda has put much focus on improving the well being of vulnerable groups of people in Uganda such as youth, women and children. Among the organization`s core program areas include; economic livelihood promotion, environmental protection and awareness, Health promotion and awareness e.g. HIV/AIDS and Reproductive health, Human rights advocacy, leadership and good governance and education support. Currently we are working on youth job creation project, life skills training, leadership and governance with financial support from ILO/European Union since January 2015. AFHI builds communities capacities to respond collectively as a group on addressing key challenges affecting them both on a community and household level. Recognizing the challenges of the poor, more especially women, Orphans and other vulnerable children including the youth, Mr. Ssenfuka Ronald, formed AFHI-Uganda in 2014 to help mobilize, train, and create awareness about their entitlements, HIV/AIDS prevention care and support, primary health care, innovation among the vulnerable communities in order to empower them to tackle the various challenges they will encounter in this lifetime. The organisation was formed as a result of two factors: 1) My experiences as an orphan, witnessing first hand my mother’s struggle to nurture my brothers and sisters despite her own vulnerabilities to socio-economic constraints; 2) Communities need to assess their current socio-economical statuses in order to uncover gaps that might still exists despite the good policies and interventions put in place by the Government of Uganda. Action for Humanitarian Initiatives-Uganda`s primary beneficiaries are the women(widows, single parents and young mothers of age bracket 16-40 years) with little or no formal education, orphans and other vulnerable children( 5-18 years old) with single or no parent including the youth( 18-35 years) . These categories are considered vulnerable because of their state of being or likely to be in a risky situation, where a person is likely to suffer significant physical, emotional or mental harm that may result in their human rights not being fulfilled
I.To give and restore hope to vulnerable households, through basic nursing; and psychological support for those bed-ridden. II.To improve the livelihoods of the poor through skills building in income generating activities. III.To increase HIV/AIDS awareness and sensitization among communities to reduce new infections. IV.To promote sexual reproductive health programs. V.To promote primary health care conditions to vulnerable communities and to enforce proper hygiene practices. VI.To promote environmental protection and nature conservation; by empowering communities to take on their responsibilities and strengthening partnerships and networks. VII.To support adult literacy to reduce levels of illiteracy through experiential learning and on the job training. VIII.To promote vocational education in order to equip youths and women with practical skills and knowledge to reduce unemployment

Governance and management:
ACTION FOR HUMANITARIAN INITIATIVES-UGANDA’s supreme governing body comprises of members elected by the general assembly who have the capacity to direct and make policies for the smooth running of the organisation. The Board of directors include:; the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary and a member. The board also has a committee of trustees who are selected by the founder members who have the experiences and capacities to technically advice and link the organisation to . There is also a committee of foundering members, which is headed by the chairperson and where the executive director is nominated. This is the committee, which had a vision that recognizes the challenges faced by vulnerable communities who want to live a good life. Currently the total membership is 8. Management
