During a recent visit to Makerere University our DevCo colleague Laureen Van Assche joined Enabel in Uganda colleagues to observe how the Initiative MAV+ supports access to safe, effective and affordable health products through strengthened research collaboration.
From February to May 2026, seven African researchers are taking part in a fellowship programme combining mentorship, laboratory shadowing and specialised training across African and European universities. At the Infectious Diseases Institute - Makerere University, led by Prof. Damalie Nakanjako, Makerere is hosting fellows from Ghana, Malawi, and Nigeria, while two Makerere researchers are also undertaking placements abroad.
A strong reminder that collaboration, science and investment in African talent remain critical to transforming research into health solutions and building resilient health systems.
