Today, we joined several tourism stakeholders to officially launch this year's World Tourism Day celebrations under the theme,

The theme recognises the growing influence of technology on how travellers discover destinations, compare experiences, make bookings and share their journeys. It calls on the tourism sector to embrace digital technology and artificial intelligence to strengthen destination marketing, improve visitor experiences, support data-led decision-making and make tourism businesses more competitive.

The month-long programme will culminate in Mbale City on 27th September, placing Eastern Uganda and the Elgon Tourism Region in the national spotlight while advancing efforts to decentralise and diversify tourism across the country.

Together with the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, sector agencies, the private sector, local leaders and host communities, we are working toward using digital storytelling, market intelligence to make Ugandaโ€™s diverse tourism offering more visible and accessible to wider markets.

We honour the life and legacy of His Majesty Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, whose three-decade reign was marked by a deep commitment to preserving Tooroโ€™s rich cultural heritage, promoting tourism and championing the conservation of Ugandaโ€™s natural heritage.

His legacy will live on in the people, places, traditions he championed and in the many lives touched by his service to the Tooro region and the Pearl of Africa.

May his legacy endure๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

๐–๐š๐ญ๐œ๐ก: In 2022, His Majesty, Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV led the historic Rwenzori Royal Expedition to Margherita Peak, raising awareness about climate change and the rapidly melting glaciers of the Rwenzori Mountains. His participation drew greater attention to the urgent need to conserve this fragile mountain ecosystem.

The tourism sector will always remember a King who understood that our mountains, traditions, heritage and communities are not only part of who we are, but treasures worthy of protection, celebration and sharing with the world.

May His Majesty rest in eternal peace๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ

Last evening, we joined tourism stakeholders, cycling clubs and associations, the wider sports fraternity and media for the launch of Race the Nile, Ugandaโ€™s first-ever 800km self-supported gravel biking race across the West Nile region.

The five-day race will start and finish in Arua City, taking riders across the districts of West Nile on a journey that combines endurance, adventure and destination discovery.

Beyond the race, it will also be an opportunity to showcase West Nile as one of Ugandaโ€™s raw, undiscovered frontiers, highlighting the regionโ€™s rich cultural heritage, diverse communities, unique food traditions, landscapes and authentic experiences.

Through events like Race the Nile, we continue to harness the potential of sports tourism to open up more of Uganda for exploration and give visitors new reasons to experience the Pearl of Africa.
