Members of Parliament from the ruling party of Tanzania (CCM); Hon. Katani Ahmed Katani (Tandahimba) & Hon. Ussi Salum Pondeza ( Chumbuni) met and discussed with Odrek Rwabwogo
issues of bilateral trade between Uganda and Tanzania. The issues discussed include the non tariff barriers that continue to affect our milk, maize and sugar exports to Tanzania. The meeting explored areas of collaboration including industrial parks, cold rooms, product testing labs on the common border points, plus the cashew nuts market in Europe and the Balkans.

Chairman PACEID Odrek Rwabwogo is in the UK to negotiate trade & product access for our private sector that relies on agriculture & commodities. The Presidential Committee on Exports and Industrial Development (PACEID) is charged with increasing our exports from the current $ 3B to $6B by 2027. The biggest focus is on coffee, milk, vegetables, fruits, tourism and manufactured goods.

PACEID Chairman Odrek Rwabwogo yesterday met with prospective investors at the 1st Lohana International Business Summit at Speke Resort Munyonyo under the theme "Africa Calling".
The forum attracted more than 27 countries, 110 cities in the world & more than 700 delegates. Potential investors are seeking opportunities to invest or form potential partnerships in agriculture, pharmaceuticals and health, infrastructure, oil and gas, minerals and financial services.

Uganda has a target of USD6bn in non-oil exports between 2023 and 2028, to stave off growing unemployment, restore sustained growth in key sectors of the economy post covid19 and increase value addition in agriculture along with more manufacturing in country. Uganda is focused on increasing exports of beef, dairy, coffee, sugar, cement, steel products, poultry, bananas and banana flour, fruits and vegetables and tourism. PACEID is hosting a cluster of international journalists specializing in coffee, fruit & vegetables, and business trade magazines in the UK and the US.
This effort is aimed at improving trade and most important exports of Uganda. They are Jamila Versi of African Business, Virignia Van Zandt from Zenger News/Forbes US, Maria Goncalves from The Grocer, Scott Bentley of Caffeine Magazine, Vanessa Facenda from Tea & Coffee Journal, Howard Bryan with Roast Magazine and Fred Searle from FruitNet/ Eurofresh.The group has visited a few parts the country including Kayunga, Mbale, Kapchorwa, Bulambuli and Buikwe among others and interacted with individuals and groups specializing in their preferred fields.
The journalists specializing in coffee were on day one hosted by Mr. Nangoli Martin, CEO Kikobero Coffee Company in Bulambuli on the ranges of Mt. Elgon.
He shared his, & the community's history with coffee before explaining to them the different steps involved right from harvesting the berries to pulping, fermentation, drying, roasting grinding & grading among others till packaging.
Kikobero undertakes community & conservation projects in the Mt. Elgon area esp in value addition by producing quality coffee.
On day two, the journalists visited a Women-led coffee growing community in Kapchorwa under the stewardship of seasoned coffee farmer, processor & exporter, Mr. Kenneth Barigye, CEO of Mountain Harvest Coffee.
In Kayunga and Buikwe, the journalist specializing in fruit & vegetables visited Zahra Food Industries Limited farm to witness jackfruit harvesting & others.

Mr. Nangoli Martin, CEO of Kikobero Coffee Company, hosted international journalists specializing in Coffee Reporting from the UK & US at his farm in Bulambuli on the ranges of Mt. Elgon.

PACEID Chair Odrek Rwabwogo welcomed a group of 7 international journalists from coffee, fruit & vegetable & business trade magazines in the UK & US.
He introduced them to farmers & exporters from those sectors at a dinner at Fairway Hotel on Monday evening. We hope their articles will market Uganda to the world & readership of business trade magazines they work with after visiting the various farms, warehouses, and processing plants countrywide and eventually increase Uganda's exports to meet the $12Bn target by 2027.
