Kagadi District is one of the 116 Districts of Uganda located in the Mid-Western part of the country which started on 1st July 2016 being curved off from greater Kibaale District. The District is bordered by Lake Albert to the West, Hoima District to the North, kibaale District to the East, Kyegegwa, Kyenjojo, Kabarole and Ntoroko Districts in the sourth. It is approximately 215 Kms from Kampala,

the Capital City of Uganda. Kagadi is one of the largest districts in the country and covers a total area of approximately 1,424 sq. kms, with 150 sq. kms being covered by water bodies. According to 2014 population and housing census, the total population for Kagadi stands at 352,815, with 171,961 (48.7%) males and 180,854 (51.3%) females. Between 2002 and 2014, population of Kagadi has grown at a rate of 5.54 % per annum. Buyaga West is more populated with 205,986 where 100,271 (49%) are males and 105,715 (51%) are females with a total number of 42,462 households each of 4.9 average size
Buyaga East has a total population of 146,829 where 71,690 (49%) are males and 75,139 (51%) being females with a total of 31,533 households of average size 4.7.

Tumusiime Elly Gard has been sworn in as the District Chairperson Kagadi District 2026-2031.

Tumusiime was handed over office and instruments of power by the Chief Administrative officer Kagadi Epodoi Pauline Opio.

The outgoing District Chairperson Kagadi Ndibwami B Yosia has today 18th May 2026 handed over office to the Chief Administrative Officer Epodoi Pauline Opio in the District Council Hall at the District headquarters.

Among the Items handed over include Double Cabin Vehicle Reg N0. UG3400081, Administrative law books and Reference materials, Office stamp and office Keys.

The function was witnessed by the Assistant RDC Kagadi Edward Birungi, Heads of Department and Sections.

Kagadi district has received a consignment of 1000 hand hoes from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), under the Ministry of Bunyoro Affairs aimed at supporting local farmers and boosting agricultural production.

The consignment which was delivered by the officials from the Ministry of Bunyoro affairs at Kagadi district headquarters in Kagadi town council was received by the RDC Caroline Nanshemeza.

Kagadi district approves UGX 54.8 Billion budget for 2026/2027 Financial Year.

Kagadi district council has approved a Shs 54.8 billion budget for the 2026/2027 Financial Year

The budget was passed during a council sitting chaired by the deputy speaker Amos Ssebuliba at the JW Kate hotel in Kagadi town council Kagadi district.

Ssebuliba had stepped in to chair the council session after speaker Magezi Muwonge had been nominated to fill the position of the chairperson Kagadi hospital management board.

In the approved budget presented by the secretary for finance, planning and administration Magezi Jamada Francis, Education takes the largest share of the budget, with 44% allocated to address major staffing gaps, classroom construction, and maintenance.

Health as the second with 10.522Bn (19%), Production and marketing 3.67Bn (7%), Administration 8.42Bn (15%),Roads and Engineering 1.69Bn (3%),Natural resources 0.5Bn (1%),Water 0.856 Bn (2%),Statutory Bodies 2.818Bn (5%),Community based services0.774Bn (1.6%),Finance 0.442Bn (1%),Planning0.357Bn (1%),Internal Audit 0.145Bn (0.2%) and Trade industry and local development 0.14Bn (0.2%).

The State Minister for Bunyoro Affairs Jenipher Namuyangu has commissioned the distribution of 500 iron sheets and 35 sewing machines to 19 groups to different beneficiaries in Kagadi District.

The function which was graced by the Retired Bishop of Bunyoro Kitara Diocese Nathan Kyamanywa and the district leadership was today held in the District council hall at the District headquarters in Kagadi town council.

Among the beneficiary schools include Bwikara SSS which has been allocated 200 iron sheets, Kihemba Primary school 100 iron sheets while Bishop Kyamanwa Senior secondary school has been allocated 200 iron sheets.

In the same development Go Green Nursey bed and Twimukye Womens group Nursey bed in Kyenzige and Burora sub counties respectively received 18m in a bid to boost their financial capacities

Namuyangu says that initiative aims at boosting the economy by increasing prosperity, reducing poverty, and improving quality of life by enhancing household income among the people of Kagadi.

She added that Bunyoro Affairs will keep supplementing the Presidential Zonal Industrial hub initiative by supporting several micro projects aimed at improving homestead income generation in the region.

The Chief Administrative Officer Kagadi Epodoi Pauline Opio highlighted that the district has since 2020 received 206m benefiting 70 groups, 2300 iron sheets to 15 schools and 7 churches, 20 heifers from Office of Prime Minister (OPM), under the Ministry of Bunyoro Affairs.

Pauline added that the program has accelerated development through eradication of poverty among the youth, reduction in crime and created employment opportunities to beneficiary groups

The District Chairperson Ndibwami B Yosia stressed the need for affirmative action to Kagadi district in terms of resource allocation given its size and population.

Kagadi District leadership commissions 4 projects under Education worth 588 million shillings.

Kagadi District leadership has commissioned 4 projects under Education Department worth 588 million shillings under the School Facilities Grant (SFG) constructed in FY 2025/2026.

The projects include construction of two classroom block, a staffroom and water tank of 5000 litres, and a five stance VIP Latrine at Ngara, Rwendahi, St Paul Nyamigisa and Igwanjura primary schools in Kagadi District.

The construction of two classroom block, a staffroom and water tank of 5000 litres costed a total of 115million shillings while 5 stance VIP latrine costed a total of 32 million at each of the four-government aided primary schools.

The Deputy Resident District Commissioner Kagadi Jeremy Namanya while addressing the public urged school headteachers to desist from charging schools fees for UPE and USE programs since it undermines the government policy.

He further noted that the act undermines the core objective of providing free, accessible education for all, particularly for children from low-income families, increase School Dropouts.

Epodoi Pauline Opio the Chief Administrative Officer urged stakeholder in ensuring community participation during the process of project implementation to ensure sustainability, foster a sense of ownership, and align projects with actual community needs.

The District Chairperson Ndibwami B Yosia is optimistic cautioned school management on ensuring operation and maintenance of government projects to maximize asset lifespan, and safety

A 50 billion Draft Budget Estimates laid before Kagadi District council.

A total of 50.070,458,000 Draft Budget Estimates, Annual work plan and other mandatory policy Documents for Kagadi District Local Government for FY 2026-2027, have been laid before Kagadi District council for further scrutiny and review.

The draft budget highlighted key areas in infrastructure, education, agriculture, and healthcare among others.

The motion was presented by the Secretary for Finance, Planning, Administration and investment Magezi Jamadah Francis during a council sitting held today 24th /03/2026 at JW Kate Hotel Conference Center in Kagadi Town Council.

The Council Sitting was presided over by Rt.Hon.Magezi Muwonge the District Speaker.

Upon review and scrutiny, the draft budget will be approved in the subsequent council sitting scheduled for 7th/May 2026.

Other mandatory documents laid before council included Revenue enhancement Plan, Recruitment Plan, Capacity Building Plan, Procurement and Disposal Plan, Operations and Maintenance Plan, Disaster Preparedness plan.

Vincent Kyaligonza the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Kagadi urged political leaders in the district to support the government in sensitising the public about the operations of the PDM programme and the need to ensure its effectiveness as a revolving fund.

He added that Parish Development Model (PDM) loans begin expiring, marking the start of the recovery phase for funds disbursed and urged beneficiaries to repay the funds to keep the revolving fund active.

In his address the District Chairperson Ndibwami B Yosia informed members that there has been a steady progress in project implementation for FY 2025-2026.

He further said the district has developed a plan to commission and handover all complete projects for community use.
