There aren’t many sights better than this!

I wanted to finish off my Tunisia series with a view I got of the Colosseum in El Jem (with my semi-retired signature pose. Or it only comes out now for memorable landmarks).

As a whole, Tunisia was a beautiful country to travel to. From the people I met, the food I ate, to all those louages I took to travel like a local. My original plan was to spend about 5-7 days, but once I had arrived, I knew I would have to change that.

One significant factor for the country being so great for me was the hospitality I received where ever I went. I felt as though I was treated like a Prince 👑.

What baffled me was the lack of tourists! Since the Arab Spring and an isolated terror attack which is now coming up 8 and 12 years ago, tourism has declined. I don’t see why because there were no issues when I went. Other western countries have had recent problems, and I don’t see people not going there.

As for travelling alone, I felt super safe! It may be that travelling as a male is more straightforward, but I did come across a couple of solo female travellers. And they were smart in how they went about their travels. So it can be done!

Also, the music I’m playing with this post, the tune is something I heard a lot when I took taxis in the city. I don’t know who copied who, but the music I found to listen to is by Persian singer Arash. Very addictive song!

I still have a few more places I want to go back and see, so for now, it’s a bye for now, Tunisia 🇹🇳

Recently, the art of mosaics has been rediscovered, and El Jem has been resurrected as a true center of this skill. Examples of a stunning selection of original mosaics can be seen in the interesting Archaeological Museum, and combined with the stunning building of the Colosseum, this is definitely worth a visit.

The Roman city of Thysdrus was built, like almost all Roman settlements in ancient Tunisia, on former Punic settlements. In a less arid climate than today's, Thysdrus prospered as an important center of olive oil production and export.
