Ahead of 2026 in Ottawa, we were pleased to partner with the Embassy of Ukraine in Canada to host an event on Canada-Ukraine defence industrial partnerships.

Ambassadors of Canada and Ukraine, Natalka Cmoc and Andrii Plakhotniuk, opened the event, welcoming officials from the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, Global Affairs Canada, the Department of National Defence, representatives of the Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries (CADSI), as well as a significant Ukrainian delegation visiting Canada under a program coordinated by the Trade Commissioner Service in Ukraine.

Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral industrial cooperation, accelerating innovation partnerships, and advancing mutually beneficial collaboration in defence and advanced technologies, with particular emphasis on unmanned systems and drone capabilities.

We wish Ukrainian delegation a productive CANSEC conference!

The Forum of National Minorities and Indigenous Peoples of Ukraine took place in a truly symbolic setting, the Botanical Garden in Kyiv. More than 600 participants, including Crimean Tatars, Bulgarians, Romanians, Poles, Roma, Georgians, Czechs, and so many others, showcased the richness, multiculturalism and unity of Ukrainian society. Thank you for having us!

Форум національних меншин та корінних народів України відбувся у справді символічному місці, Ботанічному саду в Києві. Понад 600 учасників, серед них кримські татари, болгари, румуни, поляки, роми, грузини, чехи та багато інших, продемонстрували багатство, мультикультурність і єдність українського суспільства. Дякуємо за можливість долучитися!

📢 Ми оголошуємо конкурс проєктних пропозицій для Канадського фонду місцевих ініціатив, що підтримує невеликі, але високоефективні проєкти.

Цього року програма зосередиться на трьох напрямах:

📌 людський вимір війни в Україні;
📌 сприяння інклюзивності;
📌 зростання, що працює для всіх.

Together with fellow diplomats, our Deputy Head of Mission Chrystiane Roy visited one of the downtown Kyiv sites struck by Russia’s attack over the weekend. The strike killed at least two people and injured more than 80 others. The scale of the destruction is devastating.

Canada condemns Russia’s attacks and will continue working with partners to secure a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.

Разом з іншими дипломатами наша Заступниця голови місії Крістіан Руа відвідала одне з місць у центрі Києва, зруйноване під час російської атаки на вихідних. Унаслідок атаки двоє людей загинуло і понад 80 дістали поранень. Масштаб руйнувань жахливий.

Канада засуджує російські атаки і продовжить працювати з партнерами для досягнення справедливого і тривалого миру в Україні.

🇺🇦 Ми підтримуємо Україну, вшановуючи памʼять кримських татар, які зазнали страждань і загинули під час масової депортації 1944 року, а також тих, хто чинив опір і хто повернувся.

Ми бачимо трагічні паралелі з репресіями, яких кримські татари зазнають зараз під час незаконної російської окупації.

Крим – це Україна. Кримськотатарський народ повинен мати можливість повернутись на свою батьківщину.

We recognize the tragic parallels with the repression they continue to face under illegal Russian occupation.

🇺🇦 «Українки – це величезна сила, саме вони допомагають Україні вистояти. Українські жінки переосмислюють майбутнє лідерства». Цими потужними словами Наталка Цмоць, посол Канади в Україні, відкрила регіональний круглий стіл у Львові 12 травня. Захід зібрав правозахисниць та активісток громадянського суспільства з Львівської області для обговорення шляхів зміцнення жіночого лідерства у формуванні процесу відновлення, відбудови та миротворення в Україні.

Учасниці поділилися досвідом своєї роботи, яка сприяє позитивним змінам на місцях: підтримка внутрішньо переміщених осіб та сімей ветеранів, допомога вразливим верствам населення, залучення молоді та сприяння розробці політик. Окрім обговорення безпосередніх бар’єрів, з якими стикаються жінки, під час дискусії також розглядалися більш глибинні виклики, що стоять перед жіночим рухом. Лідерки наголосили на необхідності побудови нової, міцної культури жіночого лідерства та підкреслили важливість підтримки місцевих ініціатив, мережування та взаємного навчання.

Дискусія відбулася в рамках регіональних консультацій, організованих Українським жіночим фондом Український Жіночий Фонд / Ukrainian Women's Fund та його партнерами, які стали важливою платформою для посилення ролі жінок у процесі прийняття рішень та відновленні України. Зустріч була проведена в рамках проєкту «Голос жінок і лідерство: нова сила». Цей п’ятирічний проєкт, що фінансується Канадою, зосереджений на захисті прав людини, просуванні гендерної рівності та розширенні можливостей жіночого руху для подолання викликів, спричинених повномасштабною війною.

🇨🇦 “Ukrainian women are a great force – they help keep Ukraine standing. They are reshaping the future of leadership.” With these powerful words, Natalka Cmoc, Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine, opened a regional roundtable discussion in Lviv on May 12. The event brought together women human rights defenders and civil society activists from across the Lviv region to explore how to strengthen women’s leadership in shaping Ukraine’s recovery, reconstruction, and peacebuilding.

Participants shared the transformative impact of their grassroots work, including supporting internally displaced persons and veterans’ families, assisting vulnerable communities, engaging youth, and driving policy development. Beyond addressing immediate barriers for women, the discussion also examined the deeper challenges facing the women’s movement. Leaders emphasized the need to build a strong new culture of women’s leadership, and highlighted the importance of supporting local initiatives, networking, and peer learning.

This discussion took place as part of regional consultations organized by the Український Жіночий Фонд / Ukrainian Women's Fund and its partners, serving as a crucial platform to amplify the role of women in decision-making and Ukraine’s recovery. The meeting was held under the Renewed Women's Voice and Leadership project. Funded by Canada, this five-year initiative focuses on protecting human rights, advancing gender equality, and empowering the women’s movement to overcome the setbacks caused by Russia's full-scale war.
