Health gains are strongest where strong government leadership is complemented by regional organizations, partners, civil society and stakeholders working closely together.

In Arusha, Regional Directors from UNAIDS, UNFPA, UNICEF and WHO held high-level discussions with the East African Community Secretariat, East African Legislative Assembly and civil society on sustaining progress in health across the region.

The discussions highlighted the importance of stronger regional collaboration, sustainable health financing and turning policy commitments into action, particularly to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights, address HIV and GBV, and protect the health of women, girls and vulnerable communities.

When an outbreak strikes, a strong laboratory response can save lives.

Laboratory professionals from Kilimanjaro, Tanga, Pwani, Lindi, Mtwara and Morogoro are strengthening their skills in safe specimen collection, handling, processing and transportation, including for high-risk diseases such as Ebola.

The Ministry of Health, through the Pandemic Fund project and WHO, are strengthening Tanzania’s readiness to detect, investigate and respond to public health emergencies.

Tanzania continues to strengthen the frontline workforce needed to detect and respond to public health threats. 🇹🇿

40 graduates of the 25th Frontline FETP cohort from Arusha, Manyara and Singida have joined a growing network of public health professionals strengthening disease surveillance, early detection and outbreak response. With this cohort, 891 Frontline FETP trainees have now graduated, reflecting sustained investment in Tanzania’s health security.

Supported through the Pandemic Fund, the programme continues to equip frontline teams to detect and respond to health threats early.

Early detection starts with timely information. 🩺

The Ministry of Health Zanzibar is strengthening the capacity of Community Health Workers in Kaskazini ‘A’ District to identify, verify and report health concerns early through the Event-Based Solution EBS/JnA system, with support from WHO.

The training also strengthens skills in infodemic management, helping teams detect emerging health threats, address misinformation and support faster public health action.
