We need to stop romanticising resilience…

I recently read a post by 54 Magazine that really stayed with me, particularly their reflection on how easily we can admire people for surviving circumstances we could never cope with ourselves…

This is one of our daycare mamas. She is due to give birth this week, while her twin boys, who attend our Hope and Soul daycare are turning three..

She is a beautiful mother, deeply loving and incredibly strong…

But she is also a pregnant woman without a bed…

This photograph was taken inside her mud-and-stick built dwelling, the place she calls home, where her and her boys sleep on the floor…

Her resilience is remarkable. But it should never make us comfortable with the circumstances that require it.

A mother being strong enough to sleep on a floor does not make a bed unnecessary.

And this is why, as a charity, we don’t want to simply arrive, photograph and leave…

We know this family. We are here with her. And today, we have had the incredible opportunity and honour to respond to this need with the assistance of the twins’ sponsors…

Tomorrow, we will share with you what that looked like 🤍

Thank you 54 Magazine for prompting such an important conversation…

What a way to begin our graduation season 🎓✨

On Friday we celebrated an incredible achievement and an incredible young girl…

This year has brought big changes, challenges and a new chapter, but she has continued to show such strength, determination and resilience. After moving to a new school, she didn’t simply settle in - she absolutely flourished, finishing her final school examinations as the 3rd highest-performing student in her entire year group! 🥹👏🏽

It was especially special to have Jenipha, our Social Worker, and Chaz, our Counsellor, there to celebrate with her. They have both been such a huge support to her throughout this season, and it was beautiful to see them share in this moment with her…

We are incredibly proud of how far she has come. What a journey, what an achievement, and what an exciting new chapter ahead 🎓✨

Keep shining precious girl. We are so proud of you 💕

Celebrating our daycare mamas!

Earlier this year, we invited our daycare parents and carers to help us with an hour of cleaning each week. Five hardworking mamas volunteered, giving their time alongside their own busy working lives to help care for their children’s daycare…

Last week, we wanted to say a special thank you and recognise their commitment, so Rose, our daycare manager, presented each of them with a little gift 🥰

It’s a small way of saying we see you, we appreciate you, and we are so grateful for your help! ❤️

And we loved seeing some of the little ones proudly showing off their mamas gifts too! 🧼😌

A Facebook memory popped up last week reminding me that it’s now 13 years since I first met this very little boy ❤️

I had absolutely no idea then just how much that meeting would change the direction of my life. J was one of the first children I met on my very first trip to Tanzania, and getting to know him and the many people and experiences that followed completely changed the way I saw life and what I wanted to do with mine…

And look at him now 🥹

J is more than halfway through his first year of secondary school. He’s bright, humble, kind and has grown into such a lovely young man. He might not be quite as street-smart as we would like when it comes to surviving boarding school 😂, but thankfully he has his best friend and fellow orphanage brother alongside him to help him navigate that part!

What makes this photo even more special is knowing that J’s story is now just one of many. That first trip eventually led to the start of Hope and Soul in 2018, and now supporting J and more than 107 other children through education, family support, health, safety and opportunity…

What started with one little boy and one life-changing experience has grown into an incredible Tanzanian and UK team working alongside children, families, schools and communities…

13 years down and so much more still to come 🥹🙌🏾

How it started vs. How it’s going…

April 2021 - August 2026… 🥹💗

We first met ‘Mini M’ in 2021, when she was just three years old, alongside her two older sisters. It was a difficult time for her family, and so that’s why and when Hope and Soul began supporting the girls and helping to provide them with stability, safety and the opportunity to thrive…

And thrive she has! 🥹 Her wonderfully confident personality has always shone through, and she has continued to progress beautifully. She’s now in Class Three! 📚✨

The one thing that hasn’t changed? She is STILL absolutely tiny! 😂 Two of the Hope and Soul girls a year below her are a whole head taller!

Mini M makes friends with everyone she meets and never forgets a person. She loves History and Art, but dreams of becoming a doctor one day. 🩺

We are so proud of you, our Mini M💗

3 sponsors. 24 hours. One very special birthday goal 🎈

On Friday, Hope and Soul Daycare turns 2 years old and we have a little birthday wish of our own 🥹🙏🏽

We have just 3 sponsorships needed for 4 wonderful children, including a very special set of twins who come as a pair! 😅 If we can find three wonderful people to sponsor them over the next 24 hours, we’ll be able to celebrate our 2nd birthday with a fully sponsored cohort 🧸✨

Sponsorship is £25 a month and helps provide a child with consistent support towards their pre-primary education and wellbeing, giving them the opportunity to learn, grow and look towards their future with hope...

These children are so much more than their circumstances and your support is so much more than just a monetary payment.. it’s a life changing partnership ❤️

So, if you’ve ever thought about sponsoring a child, perhaps this is your little nudge. And if sponsorship isn’t possible for you, sharing this post could be just as valuable…

Can we find three sponsors in the next 24 hours and give ourselves the best birthday present of all? 🥹🎂

£25 a month. 3 sponsors. One fully sponsored daycare.

Let’s see if we can do it. 💛

In today’s episode of running a daycare…

The children were eating their fruit snack after nap time and I caught Sweetie throwing a piece of her orange! Went through the steps of telling her what she did wrong and asking her to apologise but she wouldn’t so it was time to go to ‘corner’…

Then the tears started, she got so upset about having to go to the corner but still wouldn’t say sorry. Rose our daycare manager was the only one who could get her to calm down and eventually she said sorry 😅

Unfortunately, while all of this was happening, we realised Sweetie had been happily napping next to a little friend who’d had a toilet mishap… meaning her T-shirt and sweater needed changing. So, following the teary apology I took her to the office to find some donation clothes to change her into…

As you can see, she was very impressed with her new Peppa Pig sweater. Now all smiles and completely calmed down, I asked her, “Sweetie, next time you do something wrong, what will you do?”

Her response : “I will get a sweater!”

One for the ‘only at Hope and Soul Daycare’ collection 😅💕
