本館於94年1月27日正式開幕，館內一樓常態展，主要介紹平溪鄉天燈、煤礦、鐵路、瀑布、壺穴等自然及人文景觀特色，還有菁桐地區世紀煤礦產業發展過程及菁桐坑產業發展及變遷狀況等。
