Artist’s Interpretation:
The design concept of 'YAN' project is derived from the evolutionary developed history of Nankang district. From the past industrial period to the brave new digital era today, Nankang continues progressing life force and energy of production development. Therefore, 'YAN' represents the idea of 'life' to interpret the new dimension of Nankang in terms of evolution, creativity and sustainability. The appearance of 'YAN' is an installation simulating form and behavior of organic plants. It structured by three arbitrary but unique flowers aggregately sculptured, each one is different in size, height and dimension. The skeleton material are made by steel, they were first lacer cutting to identical pieces and roller pressed then hot-dip galvanized finished for the result to achieve a long term durability but also remaining the airiness and surreal aura. In combination of light and shadow, it generates different views over time. The lighting system is designed through the walking path gradually following toward to the installation. Underneath of each flower is installed lighting to further enhance the installation as lantern effect in the night. The 'Yan' project is not only aim to contribute a piece of public art for speculation, but in the hope to stimulate ideas and encourage creativity for Nankang community in future cultural development.

作品說明:
本公共藝術作品「衍」,設計概念啟發於南港地區歷年來遽增的歷史變遷。從過去舊型態重工業發展而蛻變為今日的數位科技新生代,他涵義著延續南港工廠時代生產製造的生命力而引用「生」的概念來詮釋衍生、創意及永續。而它「時光旅行」的故事即是南港歷史自身的演變,也是南港從過去放眼未來的時間旅程。「衍」的外觀形態是模擬有機植物的外型,任意、單一又群聚的組織方式,由三座不同尺寸、大小、高度所架構出的花裝置雕塑。骨架材料上扁鐵的使用,運用雷射切割、滾軋的做法能達到耐久的韌度,同時營造出中空輕盈的超現實氛圍。結合光與影後產生的效果,在不同時間塑造不同的都市風貌。地燈的照明設計是延續著行人流動的路徑而逐漸聚集至此的裝置。同時在各個花型裝置周邊底部設有照明,在夜間時能呈現似燈籠般的景緻。「衍」希望能帶給社區民眾的不僅是一件可欣賞引思的公共藝術,更期許在南港未來的發展中能夠付予激發與鼓勵創造進而更豐富「衍」的文化意義。
