Tangy and Tropical

IFEX Philippines continues to spotlight tropical flavors from the Philippines to the world, with SOUR as the featured flavor profile. And defining that profile is the Philippine Calamansi.

Known for its bright acidity and aromatic citrus notes, calamansi is more than a regional staple, it is a functional ingredient used to enhance flavor across a wide range of food and beverage applications. Its distinct balance of sharpness and subtle sweetness makes it ideal for formulations that require both impact and versatility.

For buyers, “sour” is not just a taste, it’s a tool. From beverages and concentrates to sauces, marinades, and condiments, calamansi delivers a clean, natural citrus profile that elevates products across categories.

As demand grows for bold, natural flavors, Philippine calamansi continues to find its place in global markets as a reliable and adaptable citrus ingredient.

The Philippines has regained strong footing in the global banana market, rising to No. 2 among the world’s leading banana exporters, according to the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Backed by a rebound in local production, Philippine banana shipments surged by 26%, positioning the country as one of the top supplier in Asia and a trusted source for international markets. Key buyers such as Japan and China continue to source Philippine bananas, drawn by their consistent quality and distinct flavor.

As demand rises and investments strengthen production nationwide, this milestone reinforces the country as a sourcing platform for agricultural products—connecting Filipino growers and MSMEs to markets worldwide and delivering Philippine flavor across borders.

LOOK | PH engages with Taiwan business community through biz forum

The Philippine Trade and Investment Center (PTIC) Taipei, in partnership with Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), supported by Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO), engaged the Taiwan business community through a series of B2B meetings, roundtables, facility visits, and an Investment Forum from 16–21 March 2026 across Taipei, Tainan, Taichung, and Kaohsiung.

As the Philippines positions itself as a competitive and reliable partner in manufacturing, digital infrastructure, renewable energy, and logistics, the growing business ties with Taiwan serve as a key driver of future investment and long-term strategic collaboration.

The engagements generated investment and partnership leads in industrial park development, electronics manufacturing, and talent development, while reinforcing opportunities in semiconductors, AI, data centers, and green energy. An MOU was signed between PEZA and MECO to strengthen support for business support organizations and facilitate ease of doing business.

Participation across government, industry, academe, and industrial park developers highlights a whole-of-ecosystem approach to investment promotion. Key partners include Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association, Bases Conversion and Development Authority, Mindanao Development Authority, Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines, Inc., academe: University of the Philippines and Bataan Peninsula State University, Dualtech, BDO, SMBC, and leading industrial park developers: Aboitiz Economic Estates, Filinvest Land Inc., First Philippine Industrial Park, Philtai Industrial Park, and Science Park of the Philippines Inc.

As companies pursue supply chain diversification strategies such as “Taiwan+1,” the Philippines stands ready as a strategic gateway for Taiwanese firms expanding into Southeast Asia.
