《給平凡人的萬華散策─ 社會集會》是為期三年以上、藝術長期駐地（long residency）的總體藝術計劃，以「散策」社會美學途徑，針對萬華區域的「棲居」（dwelling）意義，處理現代性以來的殖民史、勞動史、都會史的記憶與遺忘， 讓城市經驗成為圍繞在鄰里之間的藝術「社會集會」。
向無名英雄平凡人致敬的的萬華「散策（walk）」具有三個不同意義。第一、「walk」作為「街道」（streets）：標示萬華地區從原、漢聚集的聚落發展為過度現代化（hyper-modernization）的城市發展史，從「艋舺」改為「萬」年繁「華」的居住， 城市聚落與都市規劃公、私領域之關聯。第二、「散策」作為勞動職業（walks of life）： 顯示職業／工作的個人與社會制度，生命政治的顯現，以及經由勞動所產生的尊嚴與自我價值凸顯，是能量累積的「生命活動」（vita activita）。 第三、散策作為詩學策略：將散策行路作為一種以身體「寫作」城市的藝術社會詩學，與「他者」的機會與際遇，交匯為轉向社會「平凡人美學」的藝術實踐。
我們相信藝術可以讓原本沈默的大多數、不可發言的「平凡人」發聲，透過藝術實踐成為具有集體「公共事務」的聚合。《給平凡人的萬華散策》讓觀眾獲得解放、以差異化社會、歷史的藝術方法產生公共對話，實現著萬華的複多想像。
Walking in Wanhua: A Social Assembly is an art engagement with the communities around the neighborhood of Wanhua over the past three years since 2020. Dedicated to the ordinary people, and employing the act of walking as an artistic strategy, the project explores the diverse ways of life dwelling in the urban space full of social and historical significance. Each participating artist organizes micro-social assemblies, aiming to grant aesthetic equality to the commons, fostering new communal relations grounded in the acknowledgment of their individualities.
The exhibition pays tribute to the unsung heroes among ordinary people involved in the community engagement process. It holds three layers of social aesthetic significance, though they overlap in some areas. Firstly, walks signify the streets of Wanhua, tracing urban development from its origins as a settlement of indigenous people to a territory of colonial modernization and onward to hyper-modernization. This exploration unveils the underlying tension between government-led public urban planning and the dwelling of private personal space. Secondly, it refers to walks of life, exploring the history of work and labor in Wanhua, the division of labor reflects social intuitions, manifesting as biopolitics via manufacturing, distributing, servicing, and consumption, while accentuating the pride and dignity generated from the ontological dimension of vita activita. Thirdly, the act of walking in the city serves as a social intervention, referencing Michel de Certeau’s concept of “walking” to embody the poetics of ordinary people through the reconstruction of local anecdotes and legends and involving opportunities and encounters with others. The artistic walking fabricates new neighboring relations, as the etymological meaning of the word ‘neighbor’ depicts communal living as ‘together becoming.’
It is our belief that empowering the originally voiceless and the silent majority—the ‘ordinary people’— through a social assembly can lead to an art of democracy grounded in dingpolitik. The exhibition attempts to emancipate passive spectatorship, fostering hidden and suppressed public discourses through various artistic endeavors, commoning individuals with differences of singularities.

✒️策展人｜林宏璋
藝術工作者，從事創作、寫作及策展。紐約大學藝術人文博士，國立臺北藝術大學美術系教授。
作品參展臺北雙年展、曼徹斯特亞洲三年展、廣州三年展、中國亞洲雙年展等，並曾任臺北雙年展（2010）、威尼斯雙年展臺灣館（2007）、以及國內外當代性展演計畫策展人。過去十年內以偽臺灣人喬治‧薩滿納扎為題創作概念型性作品計畫，並於2014年臺北伊通公園舉辦個展。研究專長為跨領域藝術、美學政治、當代藝術思想等面向。藝評寫作散見國內外期刊雜誌，亦發表相關論文，編著《2010臺北雙年展文獻》、《2010臺北雙年展》、《臺北雙年展演講劇場》等書；為《藝術力》及《人造地獄》中文版寫序；個人著作則有《策展詩學》、《界線內外：跨領域藝術在臺灣》、《書寫於在地之上》、《策展主體：當代展演》等論著，現為國際策展學線上雜誌CURATOGRAPHY主編。
