沿革
1946年 高雄市立第四初級中學
1947年 高雄市立第一初級中學
1960年 台灣省立左營中學
1970年 台灣省立左營高級中學
1979年 高雄市立左營高級中學


紀要
1951年 校區由左營國校(今左營國小)遷至現址。
1978年 校門改為北向海功路。
1984年 成立全國第一個高中舞蹈班。
1993年 成立附設進修學校。
1994年 成立全國第一個高中國樂班，隔年移交市立新莊高中。
2007年 獲得教育部核定為「優質化高中」，為高雄市第一。
