🌸 Mahaprom Rachinee Flower — The Symbolic Flower of TISTR 🌸

As TISTR proudly celebrates its 63rd anniversary, we honor one of the institute’s remarkable botanical discoveries — the Mahaprom Rachinee Flower (Mitrephora sirikitiae), the symbolic flower of TISTR.

This rare and elegant flower was discovered by Dr. Piya Chalermglin, former TISTR Special Expert and distinguished Thai botanist, together with research collaborators during botanical exploration in Mae Hong Son Province, northern Thailand. The species was later recognized as a new plant species of the world.

In 2004, the flower was graciously granted the royal name “Mahaprom Rachinee” in honor of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother. Its scientific name, Mitrephora sirikitiae, reflects this royal recognition and Thailand’s rich biodiversity heritage.

With its unique beauty and graceful form, the Mahaprom Rachinee Flower represents more than a botanical discovery. It symbolizes TISTR’s spirit of scientific exploration, innovation, conservation, and the continuous creation of knowledge for society and the nation.

For 63 years, TISTR has transformed research and innovation into meaningful impact for Thailand through science, technology, and sustainable development. The story of the Mahaprom Rachinee Flower reflects how TISTR’s knowledge continues to grow and flourish from generation to generation.

🌿 TISTR — Growing knowledge, innovation, and sustainability together.
