“ASEAN Centres serve as the driving engine of sustainable development, harmonizing efforts across the economic, social, and environmental pillars.” – Dr. Anthony Pramualratana, ACSDSD Deputy Executive Director

On 10 March 2026, ACSDSD Deputy Executive Director Dr. Anthony Pramualratana and ACSDSD Communications Officer Ms. Pakjira Numchaisombut met with Dr. Somsak Akksilp, Executive Director of the ASEAN Centre for Active Ageing and Innovation (ACAI), to pave the way for collaboration ahead of the ASEAN Networking Symposium 2026. Dr. Anthony highlighted two key outcome of the symposium: the need for synergy across ASEAN’s development pillars and the promotion of best practices in ASEAN Centres collaboration. He also invited ACAI to participate in the symposium to discover synergies among ASEAN Centres. Both institutions agreed to integrate a people-to-people approach into ASEAN’s sustainable development agenda, and ACAI confirmed its participation, marking a step toward inclusive, people-centered sustainability across the region.

Yesterday, connected with civil society networks to participate in a co-creation session at the Alliance on Longevity in the Asia-Pacific (ALAP) meeting, led by Tsao Foundation. We emphasised that its framework of collaboration places CSOs at the centre of our strategic approach, recognising them as essential partners in bridging policy and community-level action.

Studies show that staying socially and economically engaged post-60 significantly slows cognitive decline. In the new longevity economy, we must learn, unlearn, and relearn. Reskilling is the engine of an active, engaged silver workforce.

A shared vision begins with a shared commitment. 🤝

and UNFPA are coming together to respond to one of ASEAN’s most defining transitions: population ageing.

What started as dialogue has now evolved into a strategic partnership grounded in trust, expertise, and a common purpose. Together, we aim to advance policies, innovation, and regional collaboration so that every person can age with dignity, security, and opportunity. This partnership marks a shared journey toward more inclusive and resilient societies across ASEAN. 🌏✨

Behind every thriving ASEAN city is an invisible army of caregivers. Their work is the foundation of our resilience, yet it remains the 'missing piece' of our GDP.

Unpaid elder care, performed predominantly by women, is estimated to be worth up to 11% of GDP across Southeast Asia. In countries like Viet Nam and Thailand, women spend nearly 5 times more hours on unpaid care than men (ILO 2025/2026). Recognising this invisible GDP is the first step toward a resilient fiscal future.

How can we better support the caregivers in our own communities? Share your thoughts below. 👇

It's time to dismantle the "generational war" narrative and recognise that our futures are inextricably linked.

At , ACAI's featured panel session 1.4 focused on bridging the gap between generations. Building this requires the creation of sustainable care ecosystems and evidence-informed policy pathways that support every stage of life. From intergenerational self-help groups to youth-led health interventions for older people, the goal is to build a social contract where no age group is left behind. We must move beyond age-based silos to ensure that digital inclusion, climate justice, and healthcare access remain universal rights across the life course.

Special thanks to our incredible line-up of keynote speaker, panelists, and moderator for sharing their expertise.

The ACAI-led special session “From Evidence to Action: Advancing Regional Strategies for Active Ageing” concluded as part of a broader series of meetings convened by ACAI during .

The session marked the launch of the Final ASEAN Regional Action Plan (RAP) on Active Ageing and brought together regional policymakers, researchers, and partners to reflect on the ASEAN Active Ageing Index (AAAI) as a practical tool to support evidence-based policy, monitoring, and learning across ASEAN.

We extend our sincere thanks to the moderator and all speakers for their thoughtful insights, and to the country focal points for their continued technical contributions and commitment throughout this phase.

ACAI gratefully acknowledges the generous support of IDRC / CRDI and Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund, whose support has enabled sustained regional dialogue, consultation, and collaboration.

On Day 2 of the Side Meeting at , the conversation shifted from the "what" to the "how." While data and technology are the engines of an active ageing society, inter-regional and multi-stakeholder collaboration is the fuel.

The big question is "What are the practical steps for concerted efforts?"

Our panel of leaders and experts emphasised the importance of connecting policy to practice, which requires mechanisms to ensure these collaborations are grounded in the real lives of ageing people in their communities.

Thank you to all our attendees and supporters for making these two days such a resounding success, especially Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund, IDRC / CRDI ERIA: Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia JICA - Japan International Cooperation Agency Japan Center for International Exchange
