9 annoying questions to answer
June 30th, 2016
For the past 2 years, local and foreign news reporters and laymen have been asking the same questions repeatedly until I feel too annoyed to answer. Due to the annoyance, I would like to provide short answers as follows:
1. Why did you have to be a protest leader?
Answer: Because corrupted politicians and sham monks were cooperating to take over Thailand.
2. Aren’t you afraid of deviating from your duty?
Answer: No, I’m not afraid because I’m performing my duty as a Buddhist and as a Thai citizen, who must repay my debt to the country. It’s a duty that every Thai person should perform, but no one was performing it. So I had to do it because my heart is not thick-skinned enough to just watch the situation idly even when I knew in my heart that staying idle would be wrong.
3. Aren’t you afraid that your actions will result in negative consequences for you?
Answer: No, I’m not afraid. If I can repay my debt to the country, religion and the King, even if it means my death, I’d do it.
4. There’s a rumor in the cyber world that the fact that you dared to fight with politicians and Dhammakaya means that you must have good backing.
Answer: Yes, I have my mother’s emotional support and my ancestors’ teachings, which train me to carefully live for the salvation of self and others. I also have Thai people, who share my ideals and whose hearts bleed for the country, religion and the King as my backing force.
5. I meant monarchy and military backing.
Answer: The monarchy institution has been leading by its actions and teachings that all Thai people must perform their duties honestly and appropriately based on their status, and to sacrifice personal benefits for public benefits. Thai people who are honest and responsible for their duties would inevitably take the King’s behaviors and teachings to be their own principles. There’s nothing wrong with that.
As for the soldiers, during the past many years, no matter whether it’s a flood, a fire, a drought or an outbreak, the soldiers helped without expecting anything in return. They never asked for votes. So if I admire soldiers, what’s wrong with that?
But if you want me to answer regarding the physical aspect, I would like to answer straightforwardly that, for such a person as Buddha Isara to decide to become the Great Lion of the Chaeng Wattana Stage, I would fight for the country, religion and the King even without backing, if necessary.
6. Aren’t you afraid that when the era of the NCPO government is over, there will be extreme consequences to you personally?
Answer: If I were afraid, I wouldn’t have been the Great Lion of the Chaeng Wattana Stage. A person like me doesn’t change his name every time he sits or stands. I’m not a chameleon that must change color for survival.
7. There are people who criticize your role because you act differently from other monks in Thailand.
Answer: It’s probably because I love this country, religion and the monarchy so much, even more than I love my own life. So I can’t possibly sit idly and let corrupted politicians cooperate with the sham monk Dhammakaya to take over Thailand.
This doesn’t mean that other monks who have been sitting idly do not love these institutions. But they are probably afraid of danger and hardship. They may be afraid that it may be difficult for them to live in the future. And lastly, they may be afraid of dying.
8. Dhammakaya has a lot of disciples, money and influence. Aren’t you afraid to fight them singlehandedly?
Answer: If Dhammakaya has a lot of disciples, money and influence, and if they were honest to Dhamma and Vinaya, it would be a delightful matter.
But Dhammakaya is not Buddhism. They simply borrowed and falsely referred to some aspects of Buddhist teachings and forms in order to make their living. In addition, they distorted the teachings, expressed the Buddha’s words incorrectly, insulted Dhamma and Vinaya, and criticized the Buddha. In such case, even if Dhammakaya has disciples all around the world and has a skyful of money and enormous influence, I would still fight.
I’m not fighting alone. Thai people that love their country, religion and the King are fighting with me.
Regarding the question whether I’m afraid, I’d like to answer that such a person as Buddha Isara is never afraid of lies and liars. Because truth is my weapon and I have the right view, why would I be afraid of those with wrong view?
9. I saw you suing this person and that person. Aren’t you worried about your image?
Answer: If I don’t do it, then who will do it?
Because I did it, the Dhammakaya cult doesn’t dare solicit donations across the country today.
Because I did it, today Thai people are not seeing dhutanga events on the street, which distort the true meaning of practicing dhutanga.
Because I did it, today society realizes the perversion of the sham monk’s cult.
Such a person like Buddha Isara, the Great Lion of the Chaeng Wattana Stage, is never worried about his image. I’m more worried about Dhamma, Vinaya and Thailand.
I have no capital. Throughout my life, I don’t live so that other people will respect me. It’s enough for me to be able to wholeheartedly respect and revere myself. Regardless of who would respect or disrespect me, how can I force any of them to accept me?
Throughout my life, if I cannot live proudly, then I don’t know why I should live.
