and Alliance Française Bangkok, along with EU Member States embassies and cultural institutes invite you to the European Languages Café. ☕

🕯️ Anniversary of the Outbreak of the Second World War

📜Exactly 87 years ago – September 1 1939 at 4:40 AM – first bombs fell on a 🇵🇱 Polish town of Wieluń. 5 minutes later, at 4:45 AM – the German forces began shelling of Westerplatte – a Polish outpost in the Free City of Danzig (Gdańsk). These events which marked the beginning of the most tragic chapter in the history of Poland and the entire world. Defense of Westerplatte, the battle of Bzura, heroic last stand at Wizna, battles of Warsaw, Hel, Polish Post Office in Gdańsk, K**k. Those military engagements are remembered today as symbols of resilience and bravery of Polish soldiers and civilians.

Although the September 1939 campaign was eventually lost, the Polish nation continued their struggle on land, in the air and on seas, sustaining resistance both in Poland, as well as on the battlefields of France, Norway, Britain, The Atlantic, North Africa, Italy, Soviet Union and beyond, until the final Allied victory over N**i Germany in 1945.

Today we remember the sacrifice, bravery and an unbreakable belief in freedom of the Second World War generation. Thanks to their resilience and effort present day Poland remains a free, democratic, safe and prosperous member of the 🇪🇺 European Union with strong ties of alliance and friendship with our neighbours.

May 1st of September always remind about the true value of 🕊️Peace in times of growing international tensions and increasing uncertainty.

A Russian cruise missile crossing into 🇵🇱 airspace over Tarnawa-Kolonia was no standalone event. Every Russian act of aggression comes with a disinformation campaign. We must counter both.

🌏On World Humanitarian Day we express our gratitude to humanitarian workers. 🇵🇱Poland cooperates with them through international and non-governmental organisations, which helps us reach communities that most need urgent support.

For millions of people across the world, humanitarian aid remains the only way to survive. According to the 🌐United Nations data, at the end of May 2026 more than 252 million people were in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. The effectiveness of those actions depends directly on their neutral, impartial and independent character, free of any kind of political pressure.

Imagine arriving in a new country overnight. You don't know the language. You don't understand the procedures. And the path to stability can feel impossible to navigate alone. That’s where pro bono lawyers step in. ⚖️
Since 2022, the Ukraine Pro Bono Collaborative – a coalition of 5 major international law firms based in Warsaw – has been working alongside European Lawyers in Lesvos to support Ukrainian refugees. Whether it's applying for international protection, accessing child benefits, or simply opening a bank account, Polish lawyers help people make informed decisions and regain a sense of control over their lives.
💬 “Behind every case is a human story. That is what keeps me coming back: the knowledge that what we do matters,” says Aleksandra, a lawyer at A&O Shearman in Poland.
💬 “I see our visitors not as clients seeking legal advice, but as neighbours or friends who suddenly found themselves in a completely unfamiliar situation. The same story that my family was living through,” adds Igor, a Ukrainian interpreter who has supported the project since its earliest days.
Together, Aleksandra and Igor show what solidarity looks like up close: not a slogan, but people who keep showing up. 🇵🇱🤝🇺🇦
Through the Ukraine Pro Bono Collaborative, more than 65 Warsaw-based lawyers across 5 firms have already helped over 3,500 people.

This week we commemorate two important anniversaries related to Janusz Korczak - an outstanding Polish educator, teacher, physician, writer, journalist, and lecturer who, against extreme and inhumane odds of life in the ghetto of German-occupied Warsaw, until the very end taught the children about the immortal power of love, friendship and kindness.

On 5th of August of 1942 Korczak together with children of his orphanage were moved by the occupiers to the death camp of Treblinka. On multiple occasions Korczak was offered chances to save his life, but each time he refused to abandon the children.

7th of August 1942 is recognised as the most probable date of Korczak's death.

This year on 22 of July - which happened to be the 148th Anniversary of Korczak's bithhday, 🇵🇱 MoFA Undersecretary of State Mr. Artur Harazim gave an interview to our partners from HDF Mercy Centre Janusz Korczak school in Bangkok about Korczak's legacy and continuous Polish Aid support for the school.
