Singapore and Thailand share close historical ties dating back to the 13th century when Singapore and Siam were important nodes for international trade. His Majesty King Chulalongkorn made his first overseas visit as King to Singapore in 1871, and His Majesty had wisely said: “As Thailand and Singapore are neighbours, it would be advantageous if our countries are friends with each other.” Royal visits to Singapore continued under the reigns of His Majesty King Vajiravudh and His Majesty King Prajadhipok. His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit continued this strong friendship and visited Singapore in 1950, 1951 and 1962. Over the years, Singapore and Thailand have built strong ties based on shared interests. Singapore and Thailand enjoy a warm and multi-faceted bilateral relationship. The close bilateral ties are reflected in exchanges at the highest political level, good cooperation among a wide range of agencies, and a high volume of people-to-people exchanges. Both countries cooperate closely bilaterally, as well as within ASEAN and in international fora. Defence ties are robust, and form another key pillar of the bilateral relationship. The Singapore-Thailand Enhanced Partnership (STEP), which was launched in 1997, provides the framework for the long-term strategic partnership between both countries. STEP comprises four pillars: enhanced economic co-operation, strong defence relations, people-to-people co-operation and the Civil Service Exchange Programme (CSEP). Under the CSEP, which comprises 13 cooperation clusters, both countries organise regular study visits and training programmes. There is extensive technical cooperation between Singapore and Thailand, including under the Singapore Cooperation Programme. In addition, under the Singapore-Thailand Third Country Training Programme (TCTP), both countries have jointly provided technical assistance to various countries, including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Timor Leste. The TCTP is Singapore's first formalised partnership with a fellow ASEAN country.

Planning a trip to Thailand? From 15 September 2026, Thailand will reduce the visa-exempt stay from 60 days to 30 days for tourists from 60 countries, including Singapore. If you are planning a longer stay, do check the appropriate visa requirements before travelling. Travellers should also refer to the latest entry requirements issued by the Thai Immigration Bureau and complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before departure.

Concluded my first Singapore-Thailand Leaders’ Retreat with PM Anutin. I deeply appreciate his friendship and warm hospitality.

Singapore and Thailand share a close and longstanding friendship, built on decades of trust and strong ties between our governments and peoples. The Retreat gave us an opportunity to strengthen these connections, including among our Ministers, and to have a candid exchange on how we can keep our partnership strong and relevant as the world changes.

Our relationship has come a long way, but there is still much more we can do together. I look forward to welcoming PM Anutin to Singapore for our next Retreat, and to working with him to bring our cooperation to greater heights.

Glad to be back in Thailand for my first Leaders’ Retreat with PM Anutin.

The Retreat gives our Ministers and us the opportunity to engage more informally, take stock of our longstanding partnership, and discuss how we can take it forward.

We had good discussions on strengthening cooperation across a range of areas — from defence and security, to trade and investment, digital and emerging technologies, as well as food and energy security.

We also looked ahead to Singapore’s and Thailand’s ASEAN Chairmanships in 2027 and 2028. By working closely and aligning our priorities, we can provide greater continuity across our successive Chairmanships and sustain ASEAN’s positive momentum.

Singapore and Thailand share a strong and longstanding partnership. I look forward to working with PM Anutin to deepen our cooperation and bring our countries even closer together. 🇸🇬🇹🇭

Ambassador in Bangkok Catherine Wong was honoured to join fellow Women Ambassadors and Heads of International Organisations for a luncheon hosted by H.E. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Thailand, at Government House.

Bringing together women leaders in Bangkok’s diplomatic community, this gathering was a valuable opportunity to exchange views and deepen ties. Singapore treasures its longstanding friendship with Thailand and remains committed to strengthening cooperation with Thailand and our international partners.

The Singapore Embassy in Bangkok was delighted to participate in the Educational and Cultural Exchange Programme held at Wang Noi Phanomyong Wittaya School from Ayutthaya Province on 24 August 2026. The event was organised to welcome a group of visiting students from NorthLight School in Singapore.

The Thai students put on a lively showcase of Thai culture, including a traditional Lotus Dance, a percussion performance, and a Muay Thai demonstration. They also set up various food stalls to teach the Singapore students how to prepare Pad Thai, Som Tum, Roti Sai Mai (a signature dessert of Ayutthaya) and other traditional Thai sweets.

Following the visit by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn to NorthLight School in Singapore in 2013, NorthLight School and Chaipattana Foundation established the Educational and Cultural Exchange Programme. The objective of this programme is to provide high school students enrolled in vocational programmes at remote schools supported by the Foundation — namely Wangnoi Phanomyong Wittaya School in Ayutthaya Province, Kuraburi Chaipattana Pittayakom School in Phang Nga Province, and Udomsasn Witya School and Srifarida Baru Witya School in Yala Province — with opportunities to broaden their horizons and gain inspiration through exposure to vocational curricula, training programmes, and modern technologies in Singapore. The knowledge and experience gained through the programme are intended to enrich the students’ learning and support the development of vocational education in their respective schools.

Since its establishment, the programme has sustained a regular exchange of visits between Singapore and Thailand, strengthening ties between students and educators from both countries.

Ambassador in Bangkok Catherine Wong hosted participants from MCCY’s Culture Academy this morning, who are in Bangkok for an overseas study visit.

The dialogue touched on Singaporean and Thai culture, exploring how our cultural landscapes differ and how we can strengthen the appreciation of culture in our societies. It was a candid and engaging exchange, with participants sharing their perspectives and experiences.

We hope the visit will open up new opportunities for knowledge exchange and future partnerships between Singapore and Thailand’s cultural communities.

The Singapore Embassy in Bangkok was proud to be at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok to support the Lions as they took on Thailand.

The Lions fought hard until the very end, securing a 2–1 victory. Although the result was not enough to take us through on aggregate, the team showed tremendous determination, fighting spirit and a never-say-die attitude. We could not be prouder of the way they represented Singapore on the pitch.

A special thank you to all our fellow Singaporeans who travelled to Bangkok to cheer the team on. Your voices and unwavering support made a difference.

The Singapore Embassy in Bangkok is honoured to join the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) at the opening ceremony of the “Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response” course under the Singapore-Thailand Third Country Training Programme (TCTP). The TCTP is part of the Singapore Cooperation Programme (SCP), and the course is organised under the 2026 Singapore-Thailand TCTP Workplan.

The course brings together 23 participants from eight countries to exchange expertise, build capacity, and strengthen regional partnerships. LTC Eddy Lin from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) will also share Singapore’s experience in disaster preparedness and emergency response with the participants.

We look forward to working closely with TICA as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Singapore-Thailand TCTP next year.

TO YOU, SINGAPORE is a special showcase of zines and art books from independent Singaporean publishers at The Independent Print Club at One Bangkok from 8 to 15 August 2026.

The event coincides with Singapore’s 61st National Day, and exhibits a range of Singapore publications, including works from Meantime, In Plain Words, Prypress, and UNIT. The printed works are inspired by Singapore, and each of them reflects a unique facet of the country – from personal Singaporean stories, to the science of hawker plates’ colours, typography inspired by neighbourhood playgrounds, and more.

The showcase is organised in partnership with Spacebar Zine, a bookshop and publisher in Thailand. We welcome all to drop by!

The Singapore Embassy in Bangkok was delighted to host our National Day Reception on 6 August 2026 to commemorate 61 years of independence.

The evening was made special by the presence of many Thai dignitaries, fellow Singaporeans, and friends of Singapore.

We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to all who joined us in celebrating the enduring friendship between Singapore and Thailand. We hope our guests enjoyed an evening of warm hospitality, meaningful conversations, Singaporean culinary favourites, and specially crafted cocktails by Cat Bite Club. Here’s to many more years of friendship and partnership!
