Messages from UNICARE Insurance
"We are sending this email to all Master Policy Holders, regardless of your locations, as any of our Education and other Agents might have students and visitors in the Christchurch region.
Our thoughts are with all of you in Christchurch as you cope with the horrors of yesterday's earthquake.
Of course we are ready to assist with insurance enquiries, but this is secondary to the situation at present.
As information comes to hand we are compiling a list of those of our Students who we know to be injured or missing. Those of you with knowledge of any students affected by the earthquake could assist by forwarding names (and dates of birth & current location if possible) as we are receiving enquiries from families overseas searching for loved ones. Please forward any information you have to [email protected]
A few notes as follows for your information:
Firstly, families overseas should contact their Embassy or Consulate in NZ if they are concerned about missing family members. Their Embassy will be able to access information from the NZ Police and authorities more quickly than we can.
NZ Red Cross has a register of people displaced in Christchurch. We are attempting to check this register for students who we know are missing. The number for this register is 0800 733 276 but can only be dialed from NZ. The number to call from overseas is +64 7 850 2199.
Families wanting to travel from overseas to NZ must understand that Christchurch city is currently in lock down with no access, there is no accommodation available, infrastructure is badly damaged – there is no fresh water or sanitary facilities. Civil Defence will not allow family members in to the city area.
Policyholders who need to make a claim or who need some advice should contact our claims team on 0800 864 227. This is a 24 hour number and we will provide advice and assistance on all aspects of policy coverage."
