Even in the darkest hours of armed conflict, humanity must always prevail.

On International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Day, Secretary Ma. Theresa P. Lazaro reaffirms the Philippines’ commitment to IHL, which serves as a vital safeguard to ensure that during times of conflict, every person remains protected under the law.

As a State Party to the Geneva Conventions and through its national laws, the Philippines continues to champion IHL as a global promise and a national responsibility.

Watch Secretary Lazaro’s message as we reaffirm that protecting human life remains at the heart of Philippine diplomacy.

PHILIPPINE EMBASSY JOINS 59TH ASEAN DAY COMMEMORATION HOSTED BY THAI SOCIAL ENTERPRISE C ASEAN

BANGKOK, 10 AUGUST 2026 - Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Millicent Cruz Paredes reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to ASEAN’s shared aspirations at the 59th ASEAN Day Celebration in a commemorative event hosted by local social enterprise C asean on 7 August 2026.

In her congratulatory remarks and toast, Ambassador Paredes highlighted ASEAN’s significant role in fostering unity and dynamism in Southeast Asia through dialogue and cooperation. She affirmed the Philippines’ leadership as the 2026 ASEAN Chair, emphasizing a commitment to guiding the bloc toward resilience and people-centered progress.

Ambassador Paredes highlighted the outcomes of the 59th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting, hosted by the Philippines in July, including the addition of new signatories to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation, and the collective goal of positioning ASEAN as the world’s fourth largest economy by 2030. She concluded by encouraging ASEAN to pursue future opportunities while upholding the longstanding ideals and values that have unified its members for nearly sixty years.

The event was also attended by representatives from diplomatic missions, the private sector, and the Thai government, led by Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt.

A group of Thailand-based Filipino teachers concluded the evening with a performance featuring a medley of traditional Filipino dances, including Itik-Itik, Maglalatik, Pandanggo sa Ilaw, Lapay Bantigue, and Tinikling.

The event was organized by C asean, a Thailand-based non-profit organization established in 2013 to promote regional connectivity by connecting the public and private sectors across the region in support of ASEAN Community-building efforts. Thai Beverage Public Company Limited (ThaiBev), a leading beverage producer and distributor in Southeast Asia and one of the largest in Thailand, supports C asean.

Mr. Thapana Sirivadhanabhakdi, Chair of C asean and Chief Executive Officer of ThaiBev, has been actively launching initiatives and projects that enhance collaboration between the private and public sectors on promoting and strengthening the ASEAN Community and creating awareness of ASEAN among the youth. These projects focus on three areas, namely, business and sustainability; leadership and talent development; and, arts and culture. END
