The Peace Corps traces its roots and mission to 1960, when then Senator John F.

Kennedy challenged students at the University of Michigan to serve their country in the cause of peace by living and working in developing countries. From that inspiration grew an agency of the federal government devoted to world peace and friendship. Since that time, more than 240,000 Americans of all ages have responded to Kennedy’s call to serve and have helped communities in 161 countries to w

ork on issues ranging from AIDS education to information technology and environmental preservation. Today's Peace Corps is more vital than ever, working in emerging and essential areas such as information technology and business development, and contributing to the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. Peace Corps Volunteer Calvin was honored to join his Youth Council and the Education Division in a community workshop promoting local wisdom and vocational skills through the art of creating garlands from traditional pha khao ma fabric.

As a guest instructor, Calvin worked alongside community members to celebrate Thai cultural heritage while encouraging creativity, lifelong learning, and youth engagement. Together, we continue building stronger communities by preserving local traditions and sharing skills across cultures.

In Service Training (IST) pays off!

PCVL Cassidy Haglund, Counterpart P’Ann, and five Youth Council members from her community hosted a Positive Youth Development (PYD) training with teachers and staff from three local schools and their Subdistrict Administrative Organization (SAO). It was a great day filled with great energy and lots of knowledge!

Group 137 Teacher Empowerment for Student Success (TESS) Volunteers and their Thai counterparts also had an In Service Training. Sessions focused on strengthening teaching practice and collaboration at site.

Everyone involved explored roles and responsibilities, classroom experiences and challenges, intercultural communication, and English Teacher Community of Practice (CoP), while also developing practical teaching skills through mini-teacher trainings and creative curriculum development.

They also looked ahead by working on their two-year work plans, turning their experiences and ideas into concrete next steps for their schools. Keep on fighting! (สู้ๆ นะ)

Yay for more In Service Training (IST) 💪

Youth in Development Volunteers and their Thai Counterparts from Group 137 reflected on their goals, roles, and experiences from their first three months at site, sharing challenges and learning from one another.

They explored intercultural communication, funding resources, community engagement, and Positive Youth Development (PYD) to strengthen their work with youth and communities.

Participants also looked ahead by working together on their two-year plans, next steps, and strategies for turning their goals into action. A job well done to everyone involved!

Group 137 has recently completed their first In Service Training (IST) that we like to call Reconnect!

Since arriving in January of this year, Group 137 has split their time in two communities: our Pre Service Training hub in the Suphan Buri province, and each volunteer’s respective community, that we call their “site”. Once at site, the goal is for the volunteer to spend the rest of their service integrated in their new home!

After three months at site, Reconnect is a perfect time for Volunteers to share with peers and Peace Corps Thailand Staff their trials and triumphs during this adjustment period.

We are so happy to see everyone’s smiling faces. Way to go G137, keep on working hard! 🫶

Peace Corps Volunteers joined their host communities in celebrating Asalha Puja Day and Khao Phansa (Buddhist Lent), embracing Thai traditions in beautiful Thai attire and participating in meaningful temple ceremonies.

Every shared experience brings cultures closer and strengthens the friendships that make service so special. 💛
