The female population is the most affected, but it is the one that undertakes different initiatives to solve this problem.

Julia de Paz, an habitant of the area, said "it takes half an hour to reach the natural water sources and a half hour to return" in El Majahual

Mr. Inocente Cárcamo, president of the water committee and habitant of El Majahual community, said that approximately 250 from 1,000 families own the system that provides drinking water only for 2 hours of service every two days.

Can you believe nearly one billion people in the world lack access to water and must travel great distances daily to obtain it?

Get to know El Majahual, a community on the coast of El Salvador that has a lot to offer but in need of a lot too. 1,000 families live in this tourist area, of which only 275 has access to a water distribution network. This means that 725 families collect water from natural water sources, such as the river, wells and water springs that are extremely contaminated. This contributes to gastrointestinal diseases, which are causing the death of more than 500 children in El Salvador. All this being the best case scenario compared to other rural areas.
