Minister of Trade and Industry Met Staff on Welfare and Administrative Reforms.

Juba, June 2, 2026 – The Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Dr. Labanya Margaret Mathya, today held a meeting with ministry administrators to discuss staff welfare and the ministry’s administrative structure.

In a separate engagement, Dr. Labanya met with messengers, cleaners, and drivers to hear firsthand information on the challenges they face in the course of their duties. The Minister encouraged the staff to openly share their concerns and assured them that the ministry is committed to addressing issues affecting their welfare and productivity.

During the meeting, the Minister emphasized the importance of creating a conducive working environment, fair treatment and equal treatment for all employees.
The discussions form part of ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Trade and Industry to strengthen administration, improve working conditions, and enhance service delivery within the institution.

Ministry of Trade and Industry Meets The National Chamber of Commerce, international and local business communities.

JUBA, May 25, 2026—The National Minister of Trade and Industry Hon. Dr. Labanya Margret Mathya today held a consultative meeting with representatives from the National Chamber of Commerce, international business partners, local traders, and private sector stakeholders to discuss pressing issues affecting trade and industrial development in the country.
The meeting was chaired by Hon. Minister of Trade and Industry and brought together officials from the National Chamber of Commerce, importers, exporters, manufacturers, investors, and members of the business community.

In her opening remarks, the Minister of Trade and Industry emphasized the government’s commitment to improving the business environment and strengthening cooperation with the private sector.

The discussions focused on several major challenges affecting the trade and industrial sectors, including: High taxation and multiple levies imposed on traders and businesses, Instability in foreign exchange rates, delays at border points and customs clearance procedures, lack of reliable electricity supply, influx of counterfeit and substandard goods into local markets
During the meeting, The business communities submitted to the minister a written document that contains all their concerns.The Minister assured the business communities that the Ministry would work closely with relevant institutions to address the concerns raised and improve the overall business climate in the country.

Ministry of Trade and Industry Meets Central Equatoria State Leadership to Address Rising Commodity Prices

JUBA, May 21, 2026 — The National Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Dr. Labanya Margaret Mathya, held a high-level meeting today with the Deputy Governor of Central Equatoria State, H.E. Paulino Lukudu Obede, and the Mayor of Juba City Council, alongside their accompanying delegation.

The strategic meeting primarily focused on the urgent need to reduce taxes on essential commodities, specifically food items and fuel. This intervention is necessitated by skyrocketing market prices, delayed civil servant salaries, a volatile dollar exchange rate, and supply chain delays that continue to severely impact the livelihoods of ordinary citizens. Both parties emphasized the critical need for tax reductions to establish effective price controls in the market.

During the briefing, the Deputy Governor of Central Equatoria State, H.E. Paulino Lukudu Obede, noted that the state government has observed the rising cost of commodities with grave concern, warning that the economic strain poses potential security threats to local markets and the lives of South Sudanese citizens.

He attributed the inflation partly to a lack of regulatory discipline in tax operations, which has led to the overcharging of goods.

Furthermore, H.E. Lukudu Obede affirmed the state government’s commitment to cooperating fully with the national government through the Ministry of Trade and Industry to combat the current economic downturn.

In response, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Dr. Labanya Margaret Mathya, commended the Deputy Governor and the Town Mayor for proactively raising the critical issue of market inflation.

The Minister assured the state leadership that these urgent concerns would be shared directly with the National Council of Ministers and the Economic Cluster. JUBA, 21st May 2026 – The National Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Dr. Labanya Margaret Mathya, met today with the leadership of the South Sudan National Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture.

The meeting was convened to discuss pressing concerns recently raised by prominent local businessman Mayen Yai Angok, which have garnered significant public attention across various media outlets.

In response to these concerns, the two institutions have mutually agreed to launch a thorough investigation into companies allegedly engaging in monopolistic trading practices between South Sudan and Uganda.

The Undersecretary for the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ustaz Yel Luol Koor, reassured the public, urging citizens to remain calm as the matter is now being actively handled by the rightful authorities.

High-Level Ministerial Meeting Resolves Timeline to Launch Nimule One-Stop Border Post Construction.

JUBA, 19th May, 2026 – The Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Dr. Labanya Margaret Mathya, convened a high-profile consultative meeting today to address the progress and accelerate the implementation of the Nimule One-Stop Border Post (OSBP) project.
The strategic meeting brought together key leadership, including:

• Hon. Amb. Muon Deng Kuol, Commissioner General of the South Sudan National Revenue Authority (NRA) Addressing Challenges and Strategic Importance

The construction of the Nimule One-Stop Border Post is a project of paramount regional importance. Once completed, it will serve as a vital economic artery, significantly reducing transit times, lowering the cost of doing business, and enhancing trade facilitation between South Sudan and the East African region.

The primary purpose of today’s meeting was to candidly discuss the outstanding administrative, technical, and logistical challenges that have previously delayed the commencement of the construction.

Recognizing the urgency of the project, the leaders engaged in productive discussions to find immediate solutions to the bottlenecks. Ministry of Trade and Industry Announces Mandatory Security Verification Stamps for All Trade Licenses.

JUBA, South Sudan – The Ministry of Trade and Industry officially announces the issuance of Ministerial Order No. 02/2026, signed by the Honorable Minister, Dr. Labanya Margaret Mathya Ugila. This order mandates the immediate implementation of Security Verification Stamps on all licenses issued by the Ministry.This strategic initiative represents a decisive step toward modernizing South Sudan’s regulatory framework and safeguarding the nation’s commercial ecosystem.

Key Objectives of the Order
• Enhance Document Authenticity: Establishing a verifiable physical mark of authority on all official trade documentation.
• Combat Forgery: Significantly reducing the prevalence of fraudulent licenses that undermine legitimate business operations.
• Ensure Regulatory Integrity: Strengthening the transparency and reliability of the trade licensing process at the Ministry Headquarters.
The order is issued in accordance with the powers conferred by Presidential Decree No. 137/2026 and Article 115 of the Transitional Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan, 2011 (as amended) Implementation and Compliance Effective immediately as of May 14, 2026, all newly issued and processed licenses must feature the official Security Verification Stamp to be considered valid.

The Ministry urges all business owners, traders, and stakeholders to ensure their documentation complies with this new security standard.
