From the vast savannas and ancient forests to mighty rivers and diverse wetlands, our continent carries a natural heritage that is priceless. Yet, this heritage is under increasing threat from habitat destruction, poaching, climate change, pollution, and other destructive human activities.

Wildlife conservation is not just about protecting animals. It is about protecting ecosystems, preserving biodiversity, supporting communities, and securing the future of generations yet to come. Every elephant, lion, leopard, bird, tree, and river plays a vital role in maintaining the balance of nature.

South Sudan's wildlife is more than a tourist attraction. It is part of our identity, our heritage, and our responsibility. If we remain silent while nature disappears, future generations may only know these magnificent creatures through photographs, museums, and stories.

The time for awareness alone is over. The time for action is now.

This bird is the Common Crane (Grus grus), sometimes known in some regions as "Al-Raho." It is characterized by its grey color, long dark neck, and the distinctive red patch on the back of its head.

In South Sudan, this migratory bird can be found in the following locations:
The Sudd Wetland: The White Nile basin and the vast Sudd swamps are considered a major wintering home and a vital staging post for migratory birds coming from Europe and parts of Asia in search of warmth and food.

Wetlands and Floodplains: It is found in water-submerged grassy plains, marsh edges, and agricultural lands adjacent to lakes and rivers where it easily searches for grains, roots, and small invertebrates.

Nature Reserves and Surrounding Areas: It frequents water-rich ecological habitats in national parks and biodiversity areas, such as the ecological surroundings of Boma and Badingilo National Parks and the wetlands associated with the Nile River and its tributaries.
