The Programme Working Group successfully hosted its 3rd session in , bringing together leaders and stakeholders from Borama and municipalities, line ministries, TIP, and target communities to review progress and shape the next phase of implementation.

As the technical implementing partner and in strong collaboration with the two municipalities, Taakulo Somali Community is committed to providing the necessary support to implement the project successfully and ensure target groups greatly benefit from it.

On behalf of the Group, TAAKULO appreciates Alliance hosted by UNOPS for the constant technical support and for entrusting resources to Cities Alliance and the implementing partner to implement this programme.

Taakulo Somali Community successfully facilitated a 3-day training for 50 Para-Social Community Volunteers from five DAC-hosting areas: Qoorgaab, Hayayaabe, Faaraxyood, Xaaslay, and Haddi.

The training strengthened participants’ capacities in community-based protection, human rights advocacy, and case referral mechanisms. It also aimed to establish strong linkages between community volunteers and Borama Municipality sub-offices to enhance coordination and collaboration at the neighborhood level.

This activity was implemented by Taakulo Somali Community in collaboration with Borama Local Municipality under the Cities Alliance project, hosted by UNOPS and funded by the European Union (EU).

Gabiley Local Government conducted a capacity-building training for municipal staff aimed at strengthening urban infrastructure planning and management. The training was implemented under the EU-funded Programme, in collaboration with Cities Alliance, UNOPS, and Taakulo Somali Community, supporting inclusive and sustainable urban development.

Taakulo Somali Community held a one-day advocacy meeting on the adoption of best practices and innovative solutions for WASH system strengthening, engaging Somaliland WASH Cluster organizations and the Ministry of Water Resources Development (MoWRD).

The meeting aligned with Taakulo’s WASH Program strategic objectives and national WASH system strengthening goals. Key lessons and innovations were shared, including the use of Smart Water Kiosks and the development of regional WASH guidelines, contributing to improved WASH services in target communities across the Awdal Region.

Taakulo Somali Community, in collaboration with the University of Burao, recently conducted a multi-stakeholder validation workshop to review and validate the final findings of the Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) research implemented under the Project.

The workshop convened 46 participants, including representatives from government line ministries, UN agencies, INGOs, LNGOs, academic institutions, and community beneficiaries, ensuring a diverse and inclusive review process.

📍Key Outcomes:

▶ The draft CSA research report was successfully validated by stakeholders.
▶ Feedback confirmed the research’s credibility, inclusivity, and alignment with community priorities.
▶ Minor recommendations were provided to enhance clarity and formatting.

This participatory approach strengthens evidence-based CSA interventions that contribute to food security, gender equality, and livelihood restoration for displacement-affected communities in Somaliland.

📢 The final research report will be disseminated through multiple accessible channels to ensure wide reach across all community groups.

Somali Community, in collaboration with the of Burao, recently convened a multi-stakeholder consultation to map inclusive dissemination channels for Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) research conducted under the Novo project.

The meeting brought together 27 diverse stakeholders, including government ministries, NGOs, academic institutions, agribusinesses, community leaders, and displacement-affected households. Participants agreed on a multi-channel approach—radio, TV, print media, policy briefs, academic forums, social media, and community-friendly formats—to ensure CSA research reaches all groups, including rural communities, elderly women, illiterate populations, and IDPs.

Outcome: A validated dissemination strategy that will make CSA research findings on gender equality, nutrition, and food security accessible locally, nationally, and globally—informing policy, strengthening livelihoods, and building resilience across Somaliland.

Across five IDP sites in Burao, 139 households are now growing their own vegetables after completing a six-day kitchen garden training delivered by Taakulo Somali Community, with support from the Novo Nordisk Foundation and in partnership with SOS Children's Villages Somaliland.

Families gained practical skills in soil preparation, irrigation, pest control, crop selection, and Good Agricultural Practices—and every household has now established its own kitchen garden.

This initiative strengthens food security, improves nutrition, creates income opportunities, and supports climate-smart livelihoods, helping communities build resilience and self-reliance.
