As the last surviving residence among Singapore’s 4 Grand Mansions, the House of Tan Yeok Nee offers a rare glimpse into Singapore’s Teochew heritage.

There is always more to notice when the House is explored with a guide. From 9 October 2026, House of Tan Yeok Nee continues its Guided Tours, with each tour offering a closer look at the craftsmanship, symbolism, and stories found within the House.

Tours are held monthly in English and Mandarin, with bookings opening on 2 September 2026. Admission is free, with advance booking required for Guided Tours.

English Tour: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Mandarin Tour: 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

For those who wish to explore at their own pace, the House remains open for free visits during regular opening hours.

诸事合想 (zu se gah siên) means “May everything unfold as wished.”

At the House of Tan Yeok Nee, this familiar Teochew blessing offers a way of reading the intricate details that crown the House.

Carvings, paintings, calligraphy and colourful ceramic inlays turn the architecture into a form of cultural storytelling—revealing how craftsmanship, symbolism and Teochew identity are woven into the House.

This plaster detail is 灰塑 (huī sù), a traditional plaster craft found in Teochew and Southern Chinese architecture.

Its raised form recalls a ruyi cloud, 如意云纹 (rú yì yún wén) — a symbol of things unfolding as one hopes.

Held in plaster, softened by light, it turns a simple wall into a small blessing.
