Started by Dr Vanessa Lin, a Veterinary Surgeon with varied international experience (Australia, Malaysia and Singapore) experienced in diagnosing and treating animal illnesses, and performing surgery. My Family Vet Clinic and Surgery pride ourselves in providing the best possible care for our patients and clients. We strive to provide high quality, ethical and personalised care for your animals and giving you a peace of mind that you are getting the best advice possible. We are open and approachable when problems arise and to discuss alternative options and treatment so to provide accessible preventative health care, to ensure all animals are offered a chance of avoiding preventable diseases. Dr Lin also has a keen interest in dermatology, soft tissue surgeries and Chinese medicine therapies for pets. She had worked in an emergency hospital and gained good experience in caring of critical patients, which demands competence in treating trauma lesions, and correcting medical or surgical disorder. A little greenery can brighten your home, but some plants can put your dog at risk. 🐾🌿

Money plant (golden pothos), aloe vera and dieffenbachia can be harmful when chewed or swallowed. Sago palm and oleander are especially dangerous, with ingestion potentially causing life-threatening poisoning.

If your dog loves chewing or exploring with their mouth, check the plants in your home and garden, and watch what they pick up during walks. Keep potentially toxic plants—including fallen leaves and seeds—out of reach.

Suspect your dog has chewed or swallowed a toxic plant? Contact a vet immediately, even if they seem well. Take a clear photo of the plant to help with identification, and do not induce vomiting unless instructed by a vet.

These are three of the health issues we see most often, and the good news is, all three are things we can genuinely help with early. 🐾

Weight-related illness is something we regularly see, extra weight puts pets at real risk for diabetes, joint problems, and heart disease. A proper consultation and honest guidance on diet can make a bigger difference than most owners expect.

Dental disease is another big one, mostly because it's easy to miss. Bad breath or a bit of tartar can look minor, but left unchecked it can lead to pain, infection, and even affect other organs. Regular dental scaling catches it before it gets there.

For senior cats especially, kidney disease is one of the leading health concerns we watch for. It often develops quietly, with no obvious symptoms until it's more advanced — which is exactly why regular blood test screening matters more as your cat gets older.

Noticed your pet sleeping a little more after their vaccination? A little extra rest can be a normal, short-lived response. 🐾💤

Vaccination stimulates the immune system, so some pets may be quieter or sleep more for the next 24–48 hours. Most will soon return to their usual playful, food-loving selves.

If the tiredness lasts longer than two days, worsens, or your pet seems unwell or refuses to eat, please contact us or walk in for an assessment.

Facial swelling, hives, difficulty breathing, repeated vomiting or diarrhoea, or collapse may indicate a serious reaction and require immediate veterinary attention. If this happens outside our operating hours, please proceed to the nearest emergency veterinary clinic.

Regular vaccinations help keep your pet protected—and a little extra sleep afterward may simply mean it is time for some well-earned rest. 💛

Quick gut check: how old do you think your cat actually is? 🐱

Not in cat years but in human years. Because the honest answer might surprise you.

That 7-year-old sitting on your lap right now? Roughly a 44-year-old. That "still acts like a kitten" 11-year-old? Already in senior territory.

Cats don't really announce their age the way we do, no grey hairs creeping in slowly, no obvious milestones. They just quietly move through these stages while we keep thinking of them as "still young."

Knowing what NOT to do in a pet emergency matters just as much as knowing what to do. 🐾

Panic makes people skip steps or make things worse — inducing vomiting on the wrong substance, giving the wrong medication, moving an injured pet incorrectly.

A few worth explaining:
→ Some emergencies (poisoning, internal injuries, swallowed objects) don't show symptoms for hours. Don't wait for things to look bad before acting.
→ If your pet's been in an accident, support them on a towel or firm board rather than picking them up as usual, there could be injuries you can't see.
→ Never give human medication unless a vet has told you to. Even common painkillers can be toxic to pets.

The most useful step happens before anything goes wrong: save a vet's number now, while you're calm. We're a walk-in clinic, no appointment needed if the moment actually comes.
