Summary of Singapore's maritime performance for August 2026.

For the second year running, came together with our terminal operators, PSA Singapore and Jurong Port, for a beach clean-up and together, we collected 474kg of litter, up from 270kg last year!

Every piece removed is one less that could harm marine life or find its way back into our waters. As a maritime community, we have a shared responsibility of caring for our seas and shores, and it is more meaningful when we do it together.

Thank you to everyone who came together, rolled up your sleeves and made a difference.

🌊 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗼𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄

From 24 to 28 August 2026, the 12th Port Management Programme brought together 28 port professionals and maritime leaders from 24 countries for five days of learning, real-world exposure and peer exchange.

Organised by , participants explored topics including port digitalisation and sustainability, and gained first-hand insights into Singapore’s port operations through learning journeys to ’s Port Operations Control Centre, PSA Singapore Innovation Centre and the Centre of Excellence in Modelling and Simulation for Next Generation Ports (C4NGP) at National University of Singapore.

With discussions on navigational safety and emerging technologies such as AI also taking place during the 17th Cooperation Forum on the Straits of Malacca and Singapore, it was a week of learning, sharing and looking ahead.

Who responds when there's an emergency out there? 🚨🌊

It starts with a button and a single signal.

A team in Singapore's Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre (MRCC), watching the seas 24 hours a day. The Global Maritime Distress and Safety System sends the SOS to satellites, coastal stations, and nearby ships in seconds.

Search and rescue is a team sport. Coastal authorities. Rescue boats. Helicopters. Hospitals. Everyone moves as one.

Singapore’s Vessel Traffic Information System (VTIS) monitors vessel movements and helps identify potential navigational risks early.

Training and drills help agencies respond swiftly. And every ship captain knows: if you hear an SOS, you go. It is the law of the sea.

From Morse code to satellite ping. From hours to minutes. Digital tools give rescuers wings. But the human heart still beats behind every response.

The ocean needs people who stay awake so others can sleep. 🌊

🏆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗣𝗔 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗳 𝗗𝗶𝗴𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘀 𝗧𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁’𝘀 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲!

Thomas was part of a four-member team from and Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR)’s National Metrology Centre recognised for pioneering mass flow metering for marine fuel measurement — an innovation that has strengthened the accuracy and integrity of bunkering operations.

The technology forms the foundation of Singapore’s mandatory mass flow metering and digital bunkering framework, helping to reduce fuel-related disputes by up to 70% and reinforcing Singapore’s leadership in maritime digitalisation. ⚓

𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗧𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 🌟

The 6th Maritime Leadership Programme (MLP), organised by , brought together senior leaders from across the ecosystem for learning in Singapore and Dalian, China. 🇸🇬🇨🇳

Through experiential workshops and simulations, leadership stories, panel discussions, peer learning and learning journeys, participants explored what it takes to lead amid change — from geopolitics and innovation to decarbonisation, AI and workforce transformation.

🌊 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟱 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗽: 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆@𝗦𝗲𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀

We closed Singapore Safety@Sea Week 2026 with an open and honest conversation on strengthening safety across the maritime industry.

Now in its third edition, the Safety@Sea Community Conversations brought together safety leaders from across the maritime community to discuss how leadership, learning from incidents and industry-led initiatives can translate into stronger safety practices on the ground.

The session also featured an open dialogue, where participants shared views on building a stronger safety culture, encouraging people to speak up and making safety practices more meaningful and effective.

As Capt. Hari Subramaniam, Deputy Chairman of the National Maritime Safety at Sea Council, reminded us, the true measure of Safety@Sea Week is not the number of events or participants, but what we do differently when we return to work.
