Bukit Batok Watch

Bukit Batok Watch We have raised many issues with the Bukit Batok Town Council, but to no avail....life here can be qu Too much of a hassle to get involved

Kepala Sakit is what my family experience on a frequent basis as a result of living in Bukit Batok. When we first moved into Bukit Batok, we raised some of the issues that affected us to the town council. Meeting with the town council is a very tedious process - it takes precious time away from our job and personal time cos we had to back up our grievances with proper communication which need to

be planned, processed & articulated. Members of the TC did meet with us, but the issues we brought up pertaining to noise and smoke pollution remained the same. This is truly absurd because the issues we residents faced & highlighted could have easily been resolved through common sense & regulation. What irritated us further was that from our conversations with fellow neighbors, we knew that they were equally affected by the issues we raised, but were resigned to their fate for several reasons :

a. Dont think they can make a difference
b. Hopes someone else will do it for them. Don't know what to do. Social media gives us an opportunity to highlight our woes, and hopefully it would reach the attention of someone in authority who understand the issues we face and take some action to address these issues .

The public has questioned whether the town council vice-chairman and MP for the area has really been going on walkabouts throughout this time...

The heat from the parking lot not just from the asphalt but from the metal and glass from cars, penetrates right into our homes. Instead of using resident's funds on unnecessary projects that only benefit contractors and little use for residents. (For example, right now, perfectly good drains around the perimeter of our blocks are being broken even though they are in excellent condition. To make matters worse, these very drains were broken just a few years ago and at that time, there was nothing wrong with the drains as well. We know, because we live here. Instead of wasting money on constantly breaking concrete even tho they are in excellent condition, the town council should look into investing in technologies such as these that can really improve the lives of residents .

I have not edited this video or tried to hype it up with music or special effects to allow it to speak for itself.(. This is the sad state of affairs in our country today ( 24 Feb 2018 ) and it just looks set to get worse unless we have a Minister of Common Sense in our Cabinet . 18 of these majestic trees that line bukit batok west avenue 3 were uprooted to make way for building more HDB flats in 2016 (which I have documented on Youtube). Now, more of them are sadly being uprooted again, & residents like me have no clue as to why. These trees have an appearance which many mistake to be unhealthy but they are strong, can outlive many generations and survive some of the toughest conditions.

The first sign a tree is sick is when it loses its foliage, but as you can see in the footage, the trees have healthy foliage . The base of the trees which have been cut are bright & strong . There are no signs of decay in any of the cut trunks from the largest to the smallest branches. They are in tip top condition. These majestic trees which have been here for at least 30 + years are breathtaking to look at - but what is most important is that in terms of impacts on our health, trees in urban areas are substantially more important than rural trees due to their proximity to people . A very large study in Toronto showed that an additional 11 trees along a neighborhood street improves health in a way comparable to "being 1.4 years younger.” It is the opposite over here - we face a double whammy . We are being suffocated by the eradication of our country side & have not much option but to spend time in fake, superficial amenities like malls, indoor & outdoor playgrounds that are made of material which emit harmful chemicals for us & our children . Is it any wonder why the authorities need to build more hospitals as singaporeans continue to be afflicted with all types of diseases and at a younger age too. Trees such as these must be removed only if there is a compelling reason to do so ……pls STOP the Tree Cutting Campaign in Singapore
