Today, we opened the doors to something special at SKH. 🧡

Say hello to 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑫𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒚 𝑫𝒐𝒔𝒆 @ 𝑺𝑲𝑯 𝑺𝒕𝒂𝒇𝒇 𝑳𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒈𝒆, a newly renovated café and rest space created for our staff to recharge, connect, and enjoy a well-deserved break.

Instead of a traditional ribbon-cutting, our VIPs topped up the acai bowls. 🍓 Each topping symbolised something meaningful: compassion, kindness, and love. Together, they reflected the spirit behind this space and a simple truth about inclusion: there is no fixed formula. It is built when everyone brings something of their own to the table.

In partnership with Extra•Ordinary People(EPL) and MamaNa Kitchensg, the cafe in 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑫𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒚 𝑫𝒐𝒔𝒆 is more than just that. It is a social enterprise space that creates meaningful employment opportunities for persons with disabilities and special needs, empowering them to build skills, confidence and community right here in our hospital.

We were deeply honoured to welcome Mayor Denise Phua Lay Peng, Adviser to The Purple Parade, as our Guest of Honour. She joined us in celebrating a partnership that reflects our shared commitment to building a more inclusive community. In sharing her thoughts, she reminded us that inclusion is not just an idea - it comes to life through everyday actions that help people feel seen, valued and empowered.

To everyone who helped make this possible, thank you for showing what a more inclusive community can look like in action. 🫶🏻

✨ POV: Renal care isn't just clinical, it's deeply human.

When someone faces kidney disease, the medical jargon can feel like a foreign language. Dialysis options? Treatment pathways? It's overwhelming when you're already processing a life-changing diagnosis.

That's where our Renal Coordinators step in to make that journey clearer, kinder, and supported. 💙

We're here to translate the complex into the clear, turn anxiety into understanding, and ensure no one walks this journey alone. From explaining treatment options in plain English to connecting patients with the right support networks, our team serves as advocates, guides, and constants throughout the process.

Because behind every treatment plan is a person with hopes, fears, and questions that deserve real answers.

What does 22 years in practice look like when you choose to keep learning? For Rahimah Binte Mohamed Rais, Principal Enrolled Nurse at SKH, that commitment has been recognised at national level.

Rahimah has been named a recipient of the Lee Kuan Yew Exemplary Trainee Award 2026 at ITE’s Student Achievers’ Award Presentation Ceremony on 19 May 2026. 🏆

After more than two decades in practice, she enrolled in the ITE Work-Study Diploma (WSDip) in Nursing in 2024, strengthening her skills while continuing her daily work at SKH. 📚

Balancing structured learning at ITE College East with hands-on training at SKH, she deepened her clinical knowledge in areas such as care planning, medication management, and clinical decision-making.

Rahimah plans to further her studies with a degree and Advanced Diploma in Nursing, continuing her journey towards taking on greater clinical responsibilities.

What would you do if someone needed help and no one else stopped?

Inspired by a real moment shared by our nurse, this is a reminder that compassion often shows up when we least expect it, and in the simplest of ways.

One evening after work, our Senior Nurse Manager, Ong Hui Fung, noticed an elderly man going from passenger to passenger asking the same question: “Can you help me? Please tell me when bus 43 arrives. I cannot see well at night.”

People nodded kindly, but as their buses came, they slowly left. The man stayed behind, growing more anxious with each passing moment.

Hui Fung wasn’t taking that bus. But she stepped forward anyway. “Uncle, I can help you. Let’s wait together.”

What followed was more than just a commute. He shared how he visits his wife daily at Sengkang Community Hospital, making sure she has dinner before heading home to Buangkok Green. But his worsening eyesight had made even something as simple as finding his stop feel overwhelming.

When bus 43 arrived, Hui Fung didn’t just send him off. She went with him. She rode alongside him, walked with him across the overhead bridge, and made sure he reached his lift lobby safely.

She got home later that night. But as she shared, it didn’t feel like a sacrifice. Just a reminder that sometimes, care doesn’t end when we leave the hospital. It continues in the small moments where someone chooses to stay a little longer, simply because it matters.

And maybe this is something for all of us too. In our busy days, it doesn’t take much to pause for a moment, check in on someone, or simply stay a little longer when someone needs help. Those small acts of kindness can mean more than we realise.

❤️ 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐭'𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭.

A team of six SKH staff recently travelled to the remote villages of Kampung Biram Rayeuk and Kampung Gunci in Aceh, Indonesia, to provide voluntary medical aid to communities affected by severe flooding.

The team comprised Dr Mohamad Fahamy Koenitz Bin Iskandar, Resident Physician, Department of Emergency Medicine; Hafez Bin Tahir, Senior Nurse; Shamala Sivamoorthy Gopalakrishnan, Nurse Clinician; Ahmad Khairil Mohamed Jamil, Senior Nurse Manager; Megan Tay Yi Ru, Staff Nurse (all from the Emergency Department); and Siti Nasriah Binti Yusri, Nurse Educator, Nursing Education and Development. 👏

With both villages having received little medical assistance in the three to four months following the floods, residents often had to rely on a shared van for an eight to nine-hour journey to the nearest hospital. The team helped set up medical tents and provided treatment for respiratory infections, skin conditions caused by contaminated floodwaters, and chronic illnesses. 🩺

The experience was also a powerful reminder of the resilience of the communities they served. Despite language barriers, the team also took time to listen, offer reassurance and support those in need. 🤝

We are proud of our colleagues for extending care beyond our borders and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
