Today marked the official opening of the 55th Study Group on Asia-Pacific Tax Administration and Research (SGATAR) Annual Meeting in Singapore, bringing together Commissioners, tax officials and representatives from 22 tax administrations and 10 partner organisations across the Asia-Pacific.

Hosted by IRAS under the theme, “Shaping the Future of Tax: Advancing Technology, Building Trust, Cultivating Talents”, this year’s Annual Meeting focuses on how tax administrations can harness technology, strengthen trust and build the capabilities needed for the future.

We were honoured to have Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Finance Mr Jeffrey Siow grace the Opening Ceremony as our Guest of Honour, with IRAS Board Chairman Mr Lai Chung Han delivering the opening address.

As the Chair of SGATAR, our Commissioner Ow F**k Chuen and the IRAS delegation look forward to meaningful and productive exchanges over the coming days.

Looking ahead begins with asking the right questions. At our recent IRAS Board Retreat, IRAS’ Board members and senior management explored what Singapore will need from its tax administration in the years ahead. Together, we discussed how IRAS can continue evolving to meet the changing needs of taxpayers, businesses and society.

Guided by our One IRAS 2035 ambition, we exchanged perspectives on the strategic shifts shaping our next chapter, from fostering a more pro-business environment and harnessing AI, to building a future-ready workforce and strengthening trust in our institution.

We thank our Board members for their valuable insights, thoughtful discussions, and strategic guidance. 🫱🏻‍🫲🏼

As the world evolves, our purpose remains unchanged: partnering our community in nation-building, supporting inclusive growth, and building a trusted, future-ready tax administration for generations to come.
